Oh Sue, I'm queen of kitchen disasters. Listen get a new batch of lentils from

another store. It really is a delicious recipe and I think those lentils were

old or who knows what.

I probably didn't cook them long enough. That's all I can figure out.

And it didn't have a nutty flavor, the lentils were hard. I will try it

again. It was one of those kitchen disasters. But, my husband is very

forging. He ate the mashed potatoes and gravy and the broccoli. LOL

That's possible as they had been in my cupboard for a long time. But I

still think I didn't cook them long enough. How long should they be

cooked?

I'd say they should be done within 40 mins or so. Test them to make sure, I've

had some cook faster and some take an hour.

I followed the recipe for 30 minutes. And I questioned myself (I will

listen to myself next time, LOL) about the still hard little round

pellets. I guess I thought adding a cup of water to the mixture would

help cook them longer in the oven. DUH!

Anyway, went to the store today to pick up odds and ends (salad fixin's)

and there were no lentils. Guess I wasn't meant to make that again any

time soon.

I get lentils bulk from Whole Foods and they cook in 30 mins.  Sometimes they

require a little more water.  Taste them or mash up a few to see if they are

done in 30 mins.  Often they take 40 mins but I've had some still rather hard

after an hour of cooking.

I love going to Whole Foods, but it's a couple hours away near Atlanta

and terrible traffic. I am waiting for them to open a store in

Gainesville. I even suggested it. There are all kinds of food I would

like to buy bulk.
