Guest guest
YoU Know if you dice it and marinade it in a little teriyaki sauce mixed with soy sauce and add to a stir fry I believe you will enjoy it. I was not used to it and the first time I tried it I didn't care for the texture or flavor, something seemed off to me. It is almost a metallic taste. I think it may be some flavoring in the broth that it is cooked in. It may be this way with the refrigerated product you bought. It may have nothing to do with it. You might try rinsing it and see if that removes any flavor doesn't appeal to you. > > The Worthington/ Loma Linda choplets which is gluten slices doesn't taste anything like this, nor does any of their other products. I don't even use egg to bread them in Italian bread crumbs, but instead use the wet products from the can(they all come in a thin broth in their can) and dip it into some Italian bread crumbs that I've mixed with garlic salt and Ms.Dash. Then fry them up. Or if using the choplets in a stir fry, just dry it off with paper towels and dice up. Then I brown it in a little oil and sprinkle with Lawry's Seasoned Salt or McKays Beef style seasoning(all vegetarian). Take it out of the pan and stir fry your veggies(green pepper, broccoli, carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, yellow or zucchini squash, etc) and minced garlic and ground ginger. > > When veggies are still tender crisp and bright in color, add back in the browned diced choplets and add a little braggs amino's seasoning. Guest guest
Thanks for the tip Donna, that sounds appealing (I do lots of stir fry type meals). I'm glad to hear again that someone else found it " different " at first. I really want to give it a fair try since so many people rave about it. Guest guest
Jann try the seitan again. The very first time I opened tempeh I ran away from it. It looked moldy and spoiled. I was terrified of it. There was nothing written about it in my little funky cookbook. I had the courage to try it again a few years later when the store clerk expalined it does normally have a strange appearance. Ast year I submoitted my Linguini and Not Clam suce recipe top Turtle Mountain and won a Nano ipod. Guest guest
There used to be a wonderful natural foods store the next town over (gone now, I miss their prepared foods!). They had a lunch special where you could chose 3 items as a sampler. EVERYTHING was yummy and that's where I first tried tempeh (I, of course, had to ask what it was!). I think that made it easier and I've loved it ever since. I'm going to try your linguini and not clam sauce soon! (I don't know if my family will like it, but I'm going to make it for me anyway!). Congrats on your win! Jann thelilacflower wrote: > > Jann try the seitan again. > The very first time I opened tempeh I ran away from it. It looked moldy and spoiled. I was terrified of it.
