Guest guest
My Borner V-shaped Mandolin - I use it DAILY to dice and slice things up. It is quick and does a beautiful job. I used it for almost everything. My Vidalia Chop Wizard to chop strawberries, boiled eggs & potatoes for potato and egg salad, fresh broccoli, mushrooms http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWPRyjSf2iA I mainly use it to dice up eggs for tossed salads, egg salads and potato salads. Guest guest
I also have the Kitchenaid Stand mixer, the professional one that will knead bread and do just about anything else. Its red so its affectionately called Big Red. I also have the Kitchenaid 7Cup food processor in red too, great for hummus and chopping cabbage for Cole slaw. I'm a Kitchenaid red junkie. My all time favorite is my Fagor 6qt pressure cooker, I use that more than any other appliance I own. For steel oats at least twice a week, for beans, grains, veggies, you name it. Crock pot not so much. Karo ---- treehugger2049 4/27/2009 8:54:35 AM Re: What are some of your favorite kitchen gadgets Kitchen Aid stand mixer - I use it for everything. It makes clean up so easy and does so many things. Just fyi for anyone, I saw at Costco they have the professional model for $274 (which is already a good price), but there is a coupon right now for an additional $40 off. Also, the magic bullet is very helpful and fast. > ---
Guest guest
I'm with you on the pressure cooker. I have an electric one. I can make rice in anything from 6 to 8 minutes. I find it amazing. Or put my foot on the end of the file! ; ) Actually the holder works well to stabilize things. I just set it on a moist dish rag for traction. Guest guest
I have to say my favorite gadgets are my super chopper (by elite) and my metal steamer you set inside your pot. ---- slim_langer 4/27/2009 12:54:13 PM Re: What are some of your favorite kitchen gadgets Yeah, Irene, but you really gotta get a good bench vise to hold the garlic while you file! , irene wrote: > > The wood rasp turned kitchen gadget that can reduce a clove of garlic > to paste in seconds, same with ginger root. > > ~ irene >

Guest guest
I must be the only person in the world who has never had a dishwasher. I don t mind washing dishes and I clean my kitchen spotless every night, so I wake up to a clean kitchen every morning. Washing dishes is like a mini bath to me. Karo ---- Kathleen Pelley 4/27/2009 9:05:34 PM Re: What are some of your favorite kitchen gadgets I know that a dishwasher is not a gadget, but an appliance, but I absolutely could not play with my gadgets if I did have a dishwasher to help with cleanup. Guest guest
I'm with Kathleen -- dishwasher is a necessity! My sister didn't have one in an apartment she had in college, first time she'd ever been without. Dishes piled up to the ceiling, stinky kitchen... I'm afraid I'd be the same way without a dishwaser! Guest guest
Favorite gadgets; rice cooker, box grater, food processor, nifty cheese slicer sent to me free by Cabot Creameries (along with a gorgeous apron, a cow toy for my dog Ursula, a bunch of coupons, recipes and a lovely letter), electric kettle (I'm a tea fiend), coffee maker stand mixer, hand blender, and two sizes of crock pots.. I have a dishwasher (very sensitive skin doesn't mix well with hand washing dishes, though I like doing them) but not a microwave. Ugh. I did take the guts out of my last microwave and have it on the kitchen counter as a big bread box. The cats can't get to the bread and haven't figured out how to open the door yet as they did with the old bread box. Guest guest
Karo, I don't have a dishwasher either. When I moved into my house I gave up a dishwasher for a washer and dryer which I appreciate having much more. I like to wash dishes, it's very zen for me. To cure jealousy is to see it for what it is, a dissatisfaction with self. Guest guest
In my case I can't squeeze to much in my little shoebox 39ft 5th wheel. So I am very careful with what I buy. If something comes in, something has to go, that's why my DH has only 1 pair of shoes. OK I have 4. But I have over 500 DMC Floss' and crochet and shuttle tatting threads.
