Guest guest
I talked some time ago with a captain of a merchant marine ship that sometimes transports rice in bulk. He told me that rice should ALWAYS be rinsed. even the kind that says " Do not rinse " . Seamen have been known to urinate on the rice. Yuk. Guest guest
I would never consider using any grain, bean or vegetable without rinsing first! You don't know who has handled it or what it came in contact with or how well it was cleaned when taken from the field before it came to you (unless you grew it and picked it yourself). They should all be rinsed until the water runs clear. Between the rinsing and cooking, the food should then be safe to eat. I prefer to buy Lundberg brand rice because it is very clean. But I have had many other brands and some of them are incredibly dirty when I rinse them. Ligtstar
