Blue Corn Masa

Walmart carries the regular bags of Masa. It is usually on the baking isle in

bags, but may also be near the mexican stuff. It come from the Yellow corn as

opposed to Blue corn. Not a lot of difference in taste and are interchangeable

in recipes.

Does anyone know where we can purchase blue corn masa? I was given a

tamale recipe that calls for it and I went to the " tienda latina " in

town, no one knew what it was or where I could look to buy some (mail

order or internet)since we live north, south, east and west on Nowhere.

Wow i can't believe your local mexican store didn't know what blue corn masa

is.  If you can't find it just use the yellow corn masa.  Its taste is almost

the same.  Blue corn masa comes from blue corn.  So if you use yellow corn masa

you get almost the same taste.  In fact I have tasted both regular yellow

corn tortillas and blue corn tortillas and to me they taste the same.  Perhaps

the stuff you get in the US is different but here in Mexico they taste the same

to me.  But personally I prefer the yellow corn masa.  You may just spend a lot

of time and effort looking for the blue masa when perhaps the yellow one tastes

better to you???

Thanks everyone. I am going to try it with the yellow to see if we like the

recipe and then I'll order some blue from Amazon (they have EVERYTHING).  We

went to a Salvedorean restaurant in another town and we loved the corn tamales

there and she gave us a recipe for the vegetarian blue corn tamales. Can't wait

to try making some it looks like it is going to be fun.
