Guest guest
I can not make any suggestions on what to drink. As someone who had about a 20 year addiction to caffeine. It was a combination of lots of things like chocolate, soda, coffee or even the over the counter pain meds. I can tell you I just stopped about a year ago, yes the headaches are horrific. Good thing is they start going away in about 3 days. Now over a year later I find I drink water 95% of the time. Usually I like to start my day with a glass of juice. Seems to be the perfect energy drink for me. When you start getting rid of toxic foods or drinks your body will thank you.
Guest guest
Michelle..... Have you tried herb teas? There are many of them out on the market that are very soothing.....loose like at Central Market or in bags. I usually only drink one cup of coffee in the mornings anyway and it doesn't seem to bother me but I love a cup or two of tea on a cold afternoon. Nancy C. East Texas I have decided that I need to quit drinking coffee for better health. When I have tried in the past I get horrible migraines. My plan is to cut back a little each day. I do like something hot in the morning when I first get up and for some reason many types of tea will tear up my stomach, like they are too acidic. Can anyone suggest an alternative that tastes good? Thanks Michelle
Guest guest
for a good coffee substitute try irish breakfast tea with milk and honey. Roobios is a great healthy tea, sometimes called red tea. you can buy some fruity varieties and has more antioxidants than any other yerba matte aka jaguar tea has a chemical close to caffeine while not being caffeine so it makes the coffee withdrawal easier jasmine green tea is very nice plain green and white teas are both very good for you, regular black tea as well and if you like mint, just take mint leave, put them in a tea ball and put it in ho water in a tea pot - best mint tea you'll ever have! don't forget that the water should be hot but not boiling - it can burn your tea leaves which is why it would taste harsh mike

Guest guest
I'm reading all these messages with interest. I decided last year to reduce the amount of coffee I was drinking. I find I'm now drinking twice as much as before. I have limited my coffee to the morning since the first of January so now it's time to work on the morning. I have Roobios tea as well as some green tea so maybe I'll just need to get my brain activated and substitute the drinks. I even bought a new teapot designed better for loose tea and it sits and collects dust. I wake up in the morning, hit the floor and in less than 2 minutes I have the coffee on. I do that before my potty visit. Now that is really bad. ( ) ( __ c\_/ Audrey

Guest guest
I have been looking for something to replace at least some of my coffee and while out shopping today I picked up a box of Celestial Seasonings Morning Thunder tea. It is kind of supposed to replace the " morning coffee " but I think it still has some caffience but it does have some health benefits as well. Here's a link to the Celestial Seasonings site where you can read about it but they sell it at regular grocery stores; I just picked up my box at Hy-Vee for 2.99. Guest guest
Lynna, don't you love HyVee?? Their Health Market is very nice. (But some of their prices on frozen foods are as high as Whole Foods). They do occasionally have good sales on some of the Morningstar Farms, Boca, and Quorn brands, though. Audrey S. Guest guest
When my stomach bothers me, I drink weak black tea (Lipton) with lots of milk and a little sugar, and the milk kind of coats my stomach. Guest guest
Hi Audrey, yes Hyvee is a pretty great store. I love their health food section...although the one in Liberty doesn't have near the selection that the one in St. Joseph does. I guess I've never shopped too much for the frozen goods (I'll have to check it out next time) but I like the selection of pastas and grains and at least some of the staple type things you can get at Whole Foods. We went to Whole Foods yesterday and just had so much fun picking stuff up. The Apple Cider Vinegar was the only thing I noticed that would have been cheaper at Hyvee; it was 3.19 at Hyvee and I paid like 4.29 at Whole Foods. Guest guest
You're in Liberty, Mo? I live in Shawnee (suburb of Kansas City, Kansas). I have found Quorn naked chikn cutlets at $3.99 a package on sale at HyVee, which is waaaaayyy cheaper than anyplace else. I bought 4 packages, haven't seen it that cheap since. They carry a lot of the Amy's canned soups, which aren't my favorite, but they're good enough to put away for sick days or snow days or whatever. Whole Foods is fun, I can spend a lot of time and money there! Audrey S. On Sun, Jan 18, 2009 at 10:13 AM, Lynna Wagner <brijsrmommywrote: > Hi Audrey, yes Hyvee is a pretty great store. Guest guest
I can feel your pain, I decided with the new year to kick the Cherry Coke habit. I want to loss weight and our family is heading towards a vegan lifestyle, and feel that drinking the extra calories is hindering to my goals. Plus I know that caffiene is so not good for us. Im not sure what other people have suggested as a replacement but my husband likes Postum and found that a good alternative to that is dry roasted barley. Donna has posted about it before and that is what he likes to use now. I have never been a coffee drinker, but I do enjoy soda. Cherie " Be a blessing and you will be blessed. Guest guest
I used eft (emotional freedom technique) to kick potato chips. I didn't really need so much to kick that habit but used the technique on something that wasn't so good for me just to see if the technique worked, and it certainly did. After a year I still can't touch a potato chip. I'm very addicted to chai lattes which I make myself. I've never liked coffee. Guest guest
Hello, I am behind on my e-mails so I'm not sure if this has been suggested: When I was planning to get pregnant my partner and I gave up coffee beforehand. We slowly added decaf (fair trade, organic, swiss water processed) to the regular. Each day or few days you add more decaf until you are drinking only decaf. This will probably help with the headaches as you are weaning yourself from the caffeine instead of going straight to nothing. I think a lot of coffee drinking is pyschological (just my observation, I don't really know). At that point you might decrease the amount you drink and substitute with something else such as an herbal tea. You could try Caf-Lib or Postum which are coffee substitutes. My parents and grandparents drank it all the time as we don't use caffeine. There are some other brands too. I don't know what they taste like (they look like coffee). Maybe someone else here knows. Guest guest
I used to drink diet pepsi, but started drinking regular instead. I drink so much LESS regular sugary pepsi than I ever drank diet. I'm not convinced that diet is so bad for me, but I don't like it anymore! I drink 1/3 to 1/2 can of regular, sugary pepsi 3-4 days a week. I love it, it's my treat at lunchtime. So whatever kind of compromise you can make that works for you is good! Audrey S. Guest guest
Hi Michelle, I gave up coffee for a while and liked having a hot cup of Ovaltine in the morning. I'm back to drinking coffee again but not as much as I used to drink. Which teas irritate your stomach? Ginger tea really perks me up but it can be really peppery sometimes. Guest guest
I haven't had Ovaltine in years. I may try that too. I did make a batch of ginger tea from a recipe off the internet. I thought it was horrible. I'm trying to figure out how to salvage it so I don't throw it away, it's instant tea, ginger, non-dairy coffee creamer and powdered milk. Something in it is just not right. Right now I'm drinking about 8 cups of coffee every morning. I forbid myself to drink any more than that and I " m trying to drink a little less each day. When I get up in the mornings it's pretty cool in the house because we don't use central heat. This morning it was 46 until I got everything warmed up. So something hot is a must! We rescue goats and my husband came up with the herd name of Petagoatjunction. It's actually Pet-a-Goat Junction because our goats are pets, not for food or dairy; although some people have thought it's Peta Goat. Guest guest
That's so cool you rescue goats. Do you have any of those fainting ones? Goats are always my favorite animal at the petting zoo. 46 is plenty chilly! I hope you can salvage your ginger tea. I usually just drop some pieces of crystallized ginger in some hot water and call it tea. Yogi brand tea makes a really good ginger tea and lemon ginger tea. Guest guest
I don't have any fainters. My family laugh that if I did I would spend all my time in the goat yard making sure they were ok! We have dairy boys, an angora wether, a pygora wether (pygmy angora cross) and the rest are pygmies. Most were bottle fed by us, but some are retirees from breeding programs. My husband and kids all love the goats and they are part of the family. They all know their names and have their own personalities. I love crystallized ginger and will try making tea with just the ginger and not all the other stuff. The instant tea may have been old as I don't use it much.
