Guest guest
Hi Muzaffer, I certainly didn't learn any cooking skills from Ibrahim and Elizabeth (and I don't think that's how she spelled her name), but I sure learned to love the food, especially falafel! This couple (they always clarified their nationality as " Christian Palestinians " ) lived in Kansas City, I think they had been here for less than 10 years (and that was 12 years ago). They had lived in Saudi Arabia for a few years as well, Ibrahim worked in the oil refineries. There is a Greek community here in Kansas City, my friends attended the Greek Orthodox Church, because it was the nearest they could come to the Eastern Orthodox Church they both grew up in. They proudly displayed in their store photographs of themselves taking the oath of United States citizenship, which I thought was sweet. Their two grown daughters also lived in town, and they helped with the business when better English skills were required. One of their daughters got married while I was working for them, and I don't know how many thousands of stuffed grape leaves they made for that wedding! They also had a darling little granddaughter who was about 2 years old at the time, she was learning both English and Arabic, but she talked in a weird mixture of both languages -- apparently, kids eventually sort out which language is which! They were neat people, I wish I hadn't lost contact with them. I don't even remember their last name. I would love to visit Istanbul, I " ve heard it's beautiful. And the food would be wonderful!!
