Guest guest
Grandma just turned 88, and got shingles for her birthday! She has a great doctor, good pain pills, etc. I'm thinking it's the pain pills that are killing her appetite, she doesn't want anything. If I cook for her, though, she will eat to avoid hurting my feelings, so I want to take advantage of that fact! What is your favorite recipe to tempt the sick person on lots of pain meds with no appetite?? I think you guys will have good answers, because I want to make sure she gets plenty of fiber to counteract the nasty side effects of narcotic pain relievers. Thanks Audrey S. Guest guest
Soup, chowders and chili are great comfort foods and a very good way to get lots of veggies and fiber in her. Bake a cast iron frying pan full of cornbread. Try the Vermont Maple Sweetened Cornbread. It is delicious. Go check out the Soup Recipe Folder on our home page. So many good ones there. Also if she like V-8 Juice, tomato juice, grape juice, buttermilk, etc., those will be good for her. I hope she is feeling better soon. She needs to drink lots of water too. The pain medication will really dry out your mouth and make it feel like you have cotton in it. She will need it though as this is a very painful skin nerve condition. She sure has my sympathy. Bless her heart and what timing, with it her birthday. Judy - Audrey Snyder Sunday, August 23, 2009 3:18 PM Good sick food? Grandma just turned 88, and got shingles for her birthday!
