Guest guest
I can't make brownies, I can bake bread from scratch all by hand, I can make cakes and cookies, stir fry's, and casseroles, but my brownies never come out right. I have come to the conclusion I am not a baker. my cookies are gummy and the pie always has a raw spot in the center of the crust. I will stick to good old veggie stews, casseroles and chili. Guest guest
Oh this reminds me - the very first from scratch cake I made. I accidentally used pancake flour instead of cake flour and it was flat with large holes in it! You know how a pancake gets those holes before you flip it over. Very funny!. Guest guest
Lol! The first cake I made, I used a pan that was something like four or five square inches too small. I thought it was so cool that it looked like a roller coaster until I bit into it I still remember my parents waiting for me to take a bite and trying not to laugh. I was so very proud of my fabu roller coaster cake. In my defense, I was young enough that I thought using a children's cookbook was cool, too. Guest guest
When I was about 9, my mom let me make the meatloaf for supper (this was pre-veg!) Nobody could eat it, I put salt in twice. Guest guest
I was at my inlaws house and was trying to impress with my cooking prowess, so I decided to make Strawberry Shortcake from scratch. (My Daddy-in-laws favorite). I am a Dixie Peach and I know how to cook, so the confidence level was really high! So high, I didn't bother to taste it, I just set it out on my mother-in-laws best china plates with fresh whipped cream and a fresh mint garnish. To my dismay my in-laws tried it, and started turning a very odd shade of red. Finally my mother-in-law asked me to show me what sugar I had used. I went into the kitchen- still clueless- and brought back the canister. Turned out to be salt. (Who keeps that much salt?!!!) It has been over 20 years and I still can't live that one down. Guest guest
Funny. Its nice we can laugh now, isn’t always funny at the time. My stepbrother’s first attempt at cookies – he used ¼ CUP vanilla extract instead of teaspoon. They actually tasted very good – but the after taste was awful! And of course you couldn’t get that out of your mouth! He was so proud of those cookies, everyone gobbling them down and telling him how good they were. Then it hit. Sam Lol! Guest guest
My first meatloaf had the egg shells as well as the eggs. My father never let me live that one down! To cure jealousy is to see it for what it is, a dissatisfaction with self. Guest guest
Brownies I can do. I use the recipe in Joy of Cooking using a 9 x 13 pan and substitute chocolate chips for the nuts because I didn't like nuts much in the past. (Now I do, but the chocolate chips are still yummy!) Sometimes they come out sort of gooey but nobody ever complains. At worst, they mistake it for fudge. I've had worse things happen. :-) -ginger , glpveg4life wrote: > > I can't make brownies, I can bake bread from scratch all by hand, I can make > cakes and cookies, stir fry's, and casseroles, but my brownies never come > out right.
