I had ovarian cancer almost three years ago...actually something in me had cancer, I didn't. I started eating vegetarian after the surgery. I cook rice/beans/noodles but most of the time I eat everything raw-- because I prefer my food raw and I'm too lazy to cook somedays, lol. Summer months I'm in the flower and veggie garden so I don't always feel like cooking. At the old place (I've been here three years) I raised most of my veggies, had three fruit orchards, lots of wild berries here in Oregon. I enjoy making jams and jellies. My bottom line is I like to know where my food comes from--when I grow it I know where it comes from. My farm is organic-- no herbicides or pesticides. I don't rototil, I strip mulch when preparing new garden beds. So I'm working on the veggie garden--raised beds, lots of compost--tomatoes are in a green house that really heats up. That's the only way to get them to ripen when you live close to the coast. I'm looking forward to reading your emails and recipes. I like to make bread and homemade pasta. I bought a new book last month on Artisan bread--yum. Jaylee Dragonfly Creek Farm Oregon

Guest guest
Hey Jaylee, We live up in the mid-valley Oregon area on 33 acres of forest, hills, and pasture. We have an orchard we put in 5 years ago, which just started bearing fruit last summer, yay! We also have a large garden. I basically learn as I go...like what is " strip mulching " ...is that something done in raised beds? We have 6 alpaca boys and 1 guard llama...which we got last Sept. and I am going to use for fiber to spin and knit/crochet. And their poop is great for the garden! We also have free-range chickens, 1 Great Pyrenees/Maremma mix dog, and 2 cats. I love making artisan breads as well...about a year ago I became very interested in wild yeast sourdough because I wanted to know how I could create bread without a bottle of commercial yeast. I bought The Bread Baker's Apprentice, by Peter Reinhart. It's been a delicious experience creating those breads and experimenting. My favorites are the ciabatta, which uses a preferment and some commercial yeast, and the wild yeast sourdough when I add kalamata olives and lots of garlic. Guest guest
Welcome Jaylee. You sound like my kind of person. I try to fly out to Oregon at least once every 2 years. In fact, I just booked a flight out July 31rst. Love Oregon.....my favorite State (National Forrests, Coastline, and mountains) all in one State. I usually start in Portland and spread out from there. At any rate, I'm just starting to look into raw food consumption. The more I study it, the more I'm convinced the loss in nutrients we experience when cooking foods. Also, I noticed we have a member named Carolyn who is posting raw food recipes. Thanks Carolyn....keep em coming. rh " Only a biker knows why a dog holds his head out a car window. "
