Place egg shells in a circle on top of the ground surface around tender plant stems such as peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage to deter slugs and cutworms. They don't cross the sharp edges of the crushed egg shells. a.. http://www.mamashealth.com/garden/eggshells.asp Fight off various garden pests by using cracked eggshells in your garden beds. Working bits of cracked shells into the soil can help repel cutworms. Sprinkling them around the base of plants will discourage slugs from feeding. You can also place bits of eggshells on top of freshly planted seed beds to help protect the seeds from birds. Step4 Add eggshells to your garden soil when tilling it to give it an extra dose of calcium. If you throw your shells on the compost pile, you can also add the calcium to your soil as you work the compost in. Guest guest
No what they did was use the eggs for breakfast, rinse out the shells, crush them up and tossed in the coffee filter (my Gran used a perculator pot) with the coffee and brew the coffee. No shells ever got into the coffee. I never asked, I just thought this was the way coffee was made. All of them did this. Guest guest
Thank you. My mother's next door neighbor (Irish) did this, and the coffee was very smooth. She wouldn't tell me what you did with the egg shells except to say that you put them in the coffee which I knew couldn't be correct. Guest guest
Isn't it funny how those old customs are little secrets. It's been hard trying decipher my Mom's recipes but so far everything has turned out perfect Donna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry diana scott <dianascot_33 Fri, 6 Feb 2009 06:34:54 Re: Donna Egg shells, slugs and coffee Thank you.
