Guest guest
with Dustin (who is now 16) it was apple sauce he wanted, and mac and cheese, he liked rice too so I would try to slip other things into the few things he would eat in the rice I slipped in tiny bits of veggies, his mac and cheese the same and his apple sauce I would add pureed fruits like pears, strawberries etc... he loved a good pb & j, or a nutella and pb sandwich David was picky picky I am just now getting him to eat vegetables (he's 9), he would eat apple sauce, and hot dogs only (i know i know), the only bread he would eat was my home made breads, to this day he prefers wheat and rye to white Darian is easy, he eats anything almost anything. He never really went through a phase like that (he's 3). He will put up a bit of a fight if he wants dessert first (and what kid doesn't) but I keep putting it in front of him and he eats it eventually. He does love oatmeal and enjoyed the peanut butter and " jelly " oatmeal i made the other day. Each child is very much their own little person, and I don't like my foods mixed much even now lol. They eventually outgrow it. My mom (who was a ped's nurse for years and still practising in the recovery room, also raised her 6 brothers and sisters, as well as her own two) said it's a phase they all go through, just give them what you want them to have and they will get the idea sooner or later. I know with our buget here lately I have found it to be true as I can't afford all the things I used to keep on hand, and my kids have learned if you want to eat you better eat what's cooked, cause there aren't any grab and go snacks right now unless you want a piece of fruit, and I no longer can afford to let them make a sandwich if they don't like it. I have to make every purchase count and stretch it as far as it can go. Today for instance Darian decided he didn't like soup (this is his older brother speaking through him), so he grabbed an orange and I told him no only after he ate the soup. Well it took him about an hour, but he came to me and said he wanted some soup. He snarffed it up and wanted seconds, but when I asked him if he liked soup he still said " No Mommy, soup yucky. " Doesn't even want the orange now. LOL ~Tee - mylameoww Thursday, April 09, 2009 11:09 AM meal ideas for 2 year old??? Hi, I wanted to ask if any one has any good ideas for meals your kids love?? I am having a terrible time with my 2 year old not eating ANYTHING. He's never been a big eater and always been in the low 10% weight but I was never worried as he seems to be growing OK. He is VERY active though and the past few months eating less and less. I know this is very normal to some degree, but I need some new ideas on what to try. Mostly he will only eat cheese(which I wished I could get him off of but don't see happening) He won't normally eat foods that are mixed! (does eat fruit and veggies)he won't eat tofu or temphe(anymore), won't eat nut butter, (will eat some nuts though) lately not crazy about beans or rice or pasta! I am at a loss! please help! ~Danielle Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 8.0.238 / Virus Database: 270.11.48/2049 - Release 04/09/09 06:09:
Guest guest
My dd will be 3 soon, and we have just weaned her off of daily mac and cheese about a month ago. It was the only thing she would eat, and she went hungry a few nights because she didn't want what I made... she wanted mac-n-cheese. I put MANY MANY MANY unorthodox items in the mac-n-cheese and she ate it all like a champ! I am glad that this stage is through. Now, she is a pro at making english muffin pizzas. We have them 2 times a week and she wants to make ALL the time. Best of luck with this " phase " Cassie --- On Thu, 4/9/09, mylameoww <mylameoww wrote: mylameoww <mylameoww meal ideas for 2 year old??? Guest guest
I also have a 2 year old who is picky. She loves fruit and most veggies, but the protein is my concern. She also likes mac n cheese, but I don't make that often. I understand that a whole grain plus a legume equals a complete protein. Some combos that I have been able to get her to eat are: cooked corn and lima beans (separated on the plate, of course), Morning Star Farms Breakfast Links and whole wheat toast, Morning Star Farms Bacon Strips and whole wheat toast, canned Taco Bell refried beans (Walmart carries these) wrapped up in warmed corn tortillas (sort of a miniature burrito), Morning Star Farms Corn Dogs. --- On Thu, 4/9/09, Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet wrote: Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet Re: meal ideas for 2 year old??? Guest guest
I'm a mom of three and was a preschool teacher for about ten years, I have seen this many, many times. If the doctor is not concerned about his weight or eating habits, then my plan would be to continue to offer the foods you normally prepare....do not make special meals for him. He will eat when he is hungry. Even though it might really worry you at times.....he won't voluntarily starve himself ( unless the doctor has determined that their is a physical cause for his refusing to eat). Don't change what you are offering, continue to offer foods that are acceptable to you. Kids have limited control over most of the things in their lives, one place they can control is eating.....most kids this age go through bursts of only eating one or two foods, or eating very little....or eating all the time....it's normal, just don't turn it into a power struggle. If he will only eat corn and eggs....don't make him corn and eggs for every meal, make what you planned to make. If he is hungry he will eat it, he may throw a tantrum because he wants corn and eggs, but once he realizes he isn't going to get his way, he will eat. If the doctor is concerned, they can refer you to a nutritionist.....you just want to make sure that you see one that respects your choice to eat vegetarian or vegan. They can help you find ways to add protien powder, etc, to the things he will eat in order to bulk up the calories. Guest guest
Hmm, sounds like my kid James (age 3). Such a picky eater. We strugle with getting him to eat every day. He would rather drink milk and juice all day than eat anything. My nephew age 7 is still a picky eater and he said it is because he likes feeling hungry. Good luck to you. Guest guest
I am not a parent. But I can respond as a formerly picky eater. My mom used to both prepare us (my brother and I were both picky) separate meals sometimes, but other times she would either make us eat what she cooked or we would go hungry. When we got older she would let us make dinner for ourselves or sometimes say we could eat what she made or not eat that night. In my opnion it would have been less confusing and more clear as to expectations if my mom would have just accross the board set that we had to eat with the rest of the family or not eat. At the same time when easy adjustments can be made I think it can be appropriate. I remember she being very ridgid and not letting us eat mashed potatos without this weird tomato gravy when she would make cabbage. I'll eat almost anything now, but the image of mashed potatos with tomato gravy makes my stomach churn. Elizabeth > . > > >
Guest guest
Hi, I babysit a couple of picky eaters who also love cheese. they are 3 and 4 years old. They really like Mac and cheese with broccoli. Mix the broccoli right in and the cheesiness hides the broccoli. They also like soups. Guest guest
I had picky eaters too, including a couple of grandsons who absolutely will NOT touch the food if it contaminates other foods on their plates. Wal Mart has plastic divided plates in the seasonal section. How about buttered macaroni in one section, his preferred veggie with cheese sauce in another and a couple of baked chickenless nuggets in the third? My kids grew up on cream of tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. Will your little one eat that? Mine liked it in a mug and could dip and slurp till it was gone. You can sneak carrots in by boiling them, then pureeing with a hand blender or food processor, add a little milk or cream, butter, and a little (very little) salt. Make buttered toast sailboats (make toast, butter, cut off edges and cut bread into triangles) to sail on the orange colored sea. Canned green peas, whirred up into a puree, also with a little milk or cream added, makes a nice cream of pea soup. Our second son used to ask for " Fog soup " and it took me a while to figure out that since we called a heavy fog, " Thick as pea soup " , he called pea soup " Fog Soup. " I usually made it with dry split peas but sometimes just didn't have the time when our Rob wanted his bowl of fog. If peanut butter is OK, make peanut butter pinwheel sandwiches. Add a little bit of honey to smooth peanut butter. Cut the crusts off of a slice of bread, then spread with peanut butter. Roll up then slice into pinwheels. I used to cut stems from celery stalks and put the pinwheel on top. Coconut mixed into the peanut butter and honey mix is also good and if your little one has enough teeth, chop up some roasted peanuts and mix it in with the peanut butter. Ants on a log Celery Raisins Peanut butter (or other nut butter) Clean celery, stuff with peanut butter, line up raisin ants along the celery log. Hand Grenades Apple Peanut butter Celery Wash and core apple. Stuff with peanut butter. Wash celery and cut into strips, stick the strips in the peanut butter. Refried beans - we ate these with corn or flour tortillas or corn chips. How about a bowl of refried beans with cheese on top and let the little one dip and munch through lunch or dinner. Fingers are nicely washable. French Toast Dippers Make French toast, slice into 4 strips. Serve with a tiny bowl of syrup or jam. Hope this helps.
