1.Shapiro Produce Recalls of J.J. Kelly Snacks Because of Possible

Health Risk

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE* - February 6, 2009 -- *Shapiro Produce *of*

Everett, Massachusetts* is voluntarily recallinga variety of snack mix

products containing peanuts because they have the potential to be

contaminated with /Salmonella/, an organism which can cause serious and

sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people,

and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with

/Salmonella/ often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody),

nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection

with /Salmonella/ can result in the organism getting into the

bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial

infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

 

*JJ Kelly Snacks** *were distributed in* **New Hampshire**, Connecticut,

Rhode Island, and Massachusetts through** **grocery stores, and

supermarkets.***

 

*The recalled products are pa**c*kaged in clear plastic packages, and

range between 8oz to 9oz., under the J.J. Kelly label as listed below:

 

*Mountain Mix*, UPC 007626863630, 8.5oz packages, J.J. Kelly Snacks,

expiration dates between 02/2008 to 02/2010.

*Oriental Mix,* UPC 007626863631, 8oz packages, J.J. Kelly Snacks,

expiration dates between 02/2008 to 02/2010.

*Yogurt Trail Mix, *UPC 007626863632, 8oz packages, J.J. Kelly Snacks,

expiration dates between 02/2008 to 02/2010.

*Raisin Nut Mix,* UPC 007626863634, 8.5oz packages, J.J. Kelly Snacks,

expiration dates between 02/2008 to 02/2010.

*Banana Sesame Crunch*, UPC 007626863638, 9oz packages, J.J. Kelly

Snacks, expiration dates between 02/2008 to 02/2010.

 

No Illnesses have been reported to date.

 

This voluntary recall has been initiated in response to a series of

recalls coming from suppliers who used products coming from Peanut

Corporation of America Blakely plant since January 2007. The FDA is

investigating an outbreak of Salmonella targeted at that plant during

this time period.

 

Consumers that have this product should not consume it. They should

discard the snacks but may take the packaging back to the location of

purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the

2. Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods Co. Announces Voluntary Recall

of Ice Cream Due to Possible Health Risk

Ice Cream and Dairy Foods Company has initiated a recall of a peanut

containing ice cream produced at our Kansas City, MO plant because it

has the potential to be contaminated with /Salmonella/, an organism

which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young

children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune

systems. Healthy persons infected with /Salmonella/ often experience

fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal

pain. In rare circumstances, infection with /Salmonella/ can result in

the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe

illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms),

endocarditis and arthritis.

This ice cream is sold in retail and convenience stores in Missouri,

Kansas and Oklahoma.

 

There have been no reported illnesses related to our products to date.

 

The Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) notified our supplier of a blend

of nuts, that the peanuts they had received have the potential to be

contaminated with Salmonella. These peanuts have been used in the

manufacture of ice cream by Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods Company.

Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods Company has switched to a different

peanut supplier on February 5, 2009 and any lots not listed above are

not under recall. Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods Company uses

dedicated production lines and has a long history of making safe and

delicious products. We will work closely with the FDA in their on-going

investigation of the potentially contaminated peanuts.

 

Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods Company is notifying our direct

customers by phone and/or in writing of the recalled products that

contains PCA's peanuts. Consumers with recalled products may either

discard them or return them to the store of purchase for a refund.

Consumers with questions may contact Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods

at 816-231-2000. Consumers may also visit the FDA website at

recalled because of this problem.

 

 

3. House Of Spices (India) Inc. Recalls Laxmi Hot & Spicy Peanuts

INC. of FLUSHING, NY is recalling 30 LB. Boxes of *LAXMI HOT & SPICY

PEANUTS*, because the products have the potential to be contaminated

with /Salmonella/. This action is a result of the PCA expanded recall of

January 28, 2009 for all products manufactured in their Blakely, Georgia

facility since January 1, 2007.

 

/Salmonella/ is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal

infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with

weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often

experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and

abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with /Salmonella c/an

result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more

severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms),

The LAXMI HOT & SPICY PEANUTS were packed in 30 LB. cardboard boxes with

*ITEM CODE: NUPEHLX1CS*.

 

No illnesses have been reported to date.

 

Customers that have purchased *LAXMI HOT & SPICY PEANUTS with ITEM CODE

NUPEHLX1CS *are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full
