Cup of tea every day, at least until the weather warms up. Then a

Van's waffle with peanut butter or a bagel with something on it or

raisin bread (this morning, just grabbed a couple of slices from the

bag - no fuss) or a smoothie. Every so often, a leftover from dinner

I spy in the fridge before I get something else.

Tomorrow, for a special treat, I'm having croissants that I got at a

local bakery with a gift certificate from one of my brothers. He

lives on the opposite coast from me, but found the bakery in my town

via Google and ordered gift certificates for Christmas. One of the co-

owners appeared on my doorstep with cookies and the certificates a

couple of days before the holiday, and just blew me away. Lovely,

lovely man and tasty baked goods. I have high hopes for tomorrow's

croissants. :-)

Our breakfast usually consists of cereal and milk on

weekdays..however, i try and make something different on weekends.

Here's one of my favourite breakfast recipes...it's a quintessential

Indian breakfast recipe called Upma:

Upma

You will need :

2 cups semolina

Chopped onion - 1 big/2small

Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated

Oil - 2 tbsps

Mustard seeds - a few

Green chillies chopped - 2-3

Chopped green pepper - 1 (or any veggies of your choice)

Fresh lemon juice - 2 tsps

Water - 3 cups

Salt to taste

Chopped cilantro for garnish

How to make upma -

Dry roast the semolina on a medium flame and when it changes colour,

remove from flame and set aside. (you get roasted semolina in stores

nowadays, in which case, you can skip this step).

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add

chopped green chillies. Add chopped onion and saute till the onion

turns pink. you can add vegetables of your choice...i usually add

chopped green peppers or corn or peas or all of them. Saute for a few

minutes until the veggies are partially cooked and add salt. Now add 3

cups of water and cover with a lid till the water starts boiling. to

the boiling water, slowly add the roasted semolina. keep stirring as

you add it. Stir till the water evaporates.Finish by adding a dash of

freshly squeezed lemon juice. Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot.

Hope you guys like this one.

i can't have the same thing over and over for breakfast my favorite breakfast

foods are quesadillas with chili or on their own.  another dish that is called

molletes i have no idea what it would be called in english but they are sooooo

good.  it is basically beans on bread with cheese melted on top.  you top it off

with tomatoes onions jalepeno peppers and green chili all chopped up and mixed

together.  Its SOOOO good.  Or refried bean tacos with jalepeno peppers its

delicious.  Those taste better with flour tortillas.  I used to have the typical

american breakfast all the time but ever since I moved out the mexico the ideas

are so varied and so much better than in the US and with all the different

chilis and hot sauces its so good I wouldn't trade it for anything.  Every now

and than I will make something like grilled cheese sandwhich or pancakes or

waffles or something like that but typically its fruit with yogurt or the

options I have already

mentioned.  Interesting enough only one of our family members is vegetarian

but our breakfasts are very vegetarian hardly ever does anyone ask for something

with meat in it.

This sounds great. I hate sweet things in the morning. Chilis wake

me up better :)

Thanks & Peace,
