Guest guest
I for one am thankful for sleeping pills when I have a night of insomnia. It tells you to take it and lay down for sleep immediately. They usually take affect very quickly in most folks. No need to take medications off the market, when something works very well for most folks. I feel like I'm in a fog, if I can't sleep at night and that is dangerous too, so taking something to help sleep occasionally when you just lay there tossing and turning for hours, is a life saver for many. There will always be very small amount of folks that are extra sensitive to a medication and for those, they should either get very low doses, or stay away from that all together. It's all a personal choice and folks should not make blanket statements against medications that help with the quality of life for many. Guest guest
I heard that Valerian(sp?) root is good for sleeping. You can buy it at Walmart near the vitamins and supplements and probably in the health food stores. It takes a few weeks to get your body used to it and after that you are supposed to sleep better. I had bought it for my husband to use instead of beer! Unfortunately he didn't use it, but he also stopped drinking the beer. Go figure! , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: > > I for one am thankful for sleeping pills when I have a night of insomnia. It tells you to take it and lay down for sleep immediately. Guest guest
Hope I don't get kicked off the list , but the herbal things don't always work on people. I, for one, cannot be in the same room as Valerian without vomiting my head off. Seeing as my gut bleeds rather easily, it is a root/weed non grata here. My doctor, an MD and ND, tried me on a herbal thing made of sugar cane, for a year. It was supposed to lower bad cholesterol and raise the good. (Yes, yes, yes, I've had enough college courses to know that good cholesterol is made by exercising), but my cholesterol was really close to 400 at my last visit, so after some heart scan my insurance doesn't want to pay for, I'll go on Lipitor. Yes, I've tried the melatonin and all the other earth friendly, non chemical things and for me, they don't work. I have a number of health issues, including living with constant pain, and my doctor has my diet and meds balanced with the goal of better health and feeling better and being able to walk a little. I LIKE going to bed, sleeping, getting up 7 hours ready, alert and ready to go. My doctor added a low dose of Elavil to take at bed, and the sleep eating has ceased. Out side of helping me sleep, Ambien keeps me from nightmares. (PTSD) When I was hospitalized for a month with pancreatitis and on IV demerol and phenergan (and a boat load of antibiotics), I still needed the Ambien in order to sleep. You'd think demerol and phenergan would make me sleep, wouldn't you? Nope. Versed doesn't work for me, either. It's a family thing. Several of our sons also have the extreme tolerance to medications and doctors learned fast that when any of us say Versed doesn't knock me out, they believe us. The only thing Versed DID do for me at my last colonoscopy was relax me to the point that I thought the people in the OR needed a lecture on the quadratic formula. Go figure. OK, that's the last I will say about this. Don't kick me off, PLEASE!!! Love and hugs, Jeanne in GA PS Some of the watercress is ready to eat and we're having some lilttle watercress sandwiches for tea this afternoon!!
