My mom always makes something like that, but plain vinegar -- plus the sour

cream, sugar, and cucumbers. I didn't know that was considered a German

recipe. Great in the summer, especially! :)

I never knew it was German either!  My mom always put mayo, vinegar, sugar, and

onions in it.  When I was older and out on my own, I added tomatoes.  Around

here they put ranch dressing in it.  Im not big on the ranch dressing version.

There's a middle eastern version, too -- with yogurt instead of sour cream,

and some oregano thrown in. I like red onions and tomatoes in mine, too.

(but I like red onions in EVERYTHING!!)

Gosh that sounds good -- I'm going to have to get a cucumber! :) I like

ranch, but I don't think it would be good in cucumber salad, either.

I guess that could make sense -- my family (both sides) is more German than

anything else. Of course, reuben sandwiches, German potato salad, and beef

stroganoff are the only German dishes that we routinely made. I have a

recipe for portobello mushroom stroganoff that I've been meaning to try...

Oh, now I'm trying to decide between mushroom stroganoff and chili -- it's

supposed to be really cold here Sunday.
