High Protein Packed Food Ideas!!

Any ideas on some on the go protein packed snacks? I have been drinking whey

(sp?) and it tastes like chalk. I also eat nub butters with fruit a lot but I am

looking for some more variety. I work out every day and I need stuff to keep my

energy up!

Thanks ;) Kait

I use protein drinks and Champion is pretty good. My favorite Champion proteins

are chocolate, vanilla and banana. Another good whey protein powder is Wellments

ProBlend 55.Their Alpine vanilla is lovely. Play around with the amount of water

used to blend your protein powder. I suspect that is where the chalky problem is

coming from.  I'd suggest ordering some samples (www.vitalady.com has samples

reasonably priced and I know there are other places that sell samples) and see

what you like. I've done protein shakes since 2002 and haven't encountered a

chalky one yet, but couldn't stand the Nectars, which have the consistency of

Kool Aid.

If you have a blender and can afford the calories, freeze some cleaned

strawberries, berries or banana chunks, toss a handful into the blender, throw

in your scoop of protein (vanilla is wonderful for this), a little water, some

extra ice and whir away. Also, if you can afford the calories, mixing vanilla

protein with orange juice and ice instead of water is really yummy.

Food wise, refried beans are full of protein, as well as hummus. We always have

both of those in the fridge for quick snacks. If you eat dairy, chunks of cheese

are good. I think Donna just eats a bit of tofu plain, which isn't something I

can't do yet, but I did discover, with her help, that it makes a nice stir fry.

Maybe you could come up with a tofu based pudding? Bet someone on the list

already has!

I make eggless salad out of cubed firm tofu and chickenless salad out of chopped

chickpeas. High in protein and very portable with high fiber bread or crackers.

Add minced celery, carrot, cucumber, whatever veggies you want and nayonaise.

Hope that helps!

We make little snacks that we refer to as power balls.

1 c. honey

1 c. peanut butter

1 c. protein powder (we use Shaklee vanilla or chocolate)

1 c. meal replacement powder (also use a product by Shaklee)

Mix all together and make them into balls.  We keep ours in the frig. and snag

one when we need one.  My daughter and her friends love them too.

The recipe is so basic that you can make variations.  I use mini choc. chips

with chocolate

protein power and vanilla meal replacement powder and they taste like reese's

peanut butter cups, but are better for you.  You can also use oatmeal, dried

fruit, etc.
