Guest guest
This is the perfect recipe for you. Â I just made it this weekend and it was so good. Â You can make it as thick you like for over your potato, or add more broth and call it soup. Â It's called Bissara and according to the person who submitted it, it originated in north Africa. Â I didn't have the chile pepper so I used chili powder instead. Â Worked fine. Â I also added a little cayenne to heat it up a bit. Â Great on a cold winter day. 2 T olive oil 4 cloves garlic crushed 6 cups water or broth 3 cups dry green split peas 1 dried red chile pepper 2 t paprika 1 t cumin Salt & pepper to taste Saute garlic in the olive oil. Â Add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer (uncovered) for about an hour until peas are tender. Â Mash with a wooden spoon until smooth.
