I'm looking for a good vegetarian cookbook. Vegan would be good too because both

kids are allergic to dairy and one is allergic to eggs. I don't have a lot of

time to research and didn't want to buy something I wouldn't use.

TIA,

Robin

A co-worker has Veganomicon, I'd agree it's a good book. I chose not to

purchase it because it was very similar to many other vegetarian cook books that

I've already got on the shelf.

I'm quite picky about my cook books. While I'm still not quite vegetairan, I

recently made the decision to cut out more meat, and I've been thinking about it

for years.

Here's what I've picked up.

Passionate Vegetarian ISBN: 0761128255

1000 Vegetarian ISBN: 0752584278

The Essential Vegetarian Cookbook ISBN: 0517599899

Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone ISBN: 0767900146

The Essential Vegetarian Cookbook ISBN: 0864115105

(not the same as the above book with the sme title)

Recently purchased

Of These Ye May Freely Eat

$3 ISBN: 1878726021

I got it from some 7th day adventists at the local fair. It's got some

different recipies in it that I might try out, though it's got a lot that I

won't try. I'm interested in their use of beans in their seitan.

I also use -

The Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book

The Square Food Gardening :)

Like I said, I'm quite picky.

I have so many cookbooks--vegetarian and non, I don't know where to begin,

but I will give you my favorites:

The Vegetarian Times Cookbook (I think that's the name of it)

The Gradual Vegetarian (great because it has recipes for non-vegs and tells

you how to cook for mixed palates)

How to Cook Everything (not vegetarian, but has instructions on how to cook

anything.)

Whole Grains Every Day, Every Way (excellent)

The Passionate Vegetarian

Super Natural Cooking (I highly recommend her blog, 101cookbooks.com)

I also have this vegetarian cookbook by a woman who used to have a

vegetarian cooking show on PBS. Cannot remember her name or the book, but

it's sort of macrobiotic. I think her first name is Christine or something.

I'm sure someone knows who I'm talking about :)

I have a ton of others that I use, but I'm at work and can't remember the

names. Anyway, those are some. Definitely check out Heidi Swanson's

blog--101cookbooks.com. I love the things she does on there. Some of the

recipes are frou frou, but they are delicious. I usually go to her site

first and work my way from there.

Anarchitist.....er........Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Moore Lape.  I also

posted a link earlier this week for a free vegetarian e-cookbook. It is

primarily gluten free so may be of help. Let's see if I can find it.....

wow how's that for a miracle. There it is. There's also a free vegetarian

dessert cookbook.

Hope this helps, Jeanne in GA

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but Vegan with a Vengeance is a

great cookbook.... so many fabulous ideas and the recipes taste amazing. The

only thing is some of the recipes call for a lot of ingredients or hard to find

ingredients, but I find you can easily cut those out or make the recipe more

suitable to what you have. I love this cookbook, though.

I have SO many cookbooks, I need to resist buying another (right now...) BUT my

library has both Vegan Soul Kitchen and The Vegan Table and I've requested them!

I can at least take a look.

Some of my favorites (not necessarily vegan but I'm sure there are recipes you

can use) are 1001 Low Fat Vegetarian Recipes by Sue Spitler, 1000 Vegetarian

Recipes by Carol Gelles, Wholesome Harvest by Gelles.

Donna, is there a section set up in the files listing favorite cookbooks? I

meant to look before I started writing this!
