OT TV vs Computer

We quit TV last summer. We decided that we were just watching too much of it and

the TV was on all the time. Plus we were on our computers so now we just have

the computers and we still watch a few of our favorite programs online but we

dont watch nearly as much tv programming as we used to. It can all be addicting

and time wasting, even reading books can be time wasting if there are other

things that need to be done that are being neglected. We still have our tv and

watch videos here and there also, but it is rare and usually a religious

program. Its all about personal choice.

Many good things on TV.

My favorites:

#1] Rafael Nadal whenever, wherever he plays

#2] 6 Feet Under [on Demand]

#3] #1 Ladies Detective Agency

#4] Turner Classic Movies

#5] American Movie Classics

Computer is very addicting. I agree with Donna on this one.

Life is stressful, economy is bad, traffic is terrible. I like to watch a

little TV and unwind each evening. Nothing wrong with a laugh watching Seinfeld

or home animal videos, sports scores, and I don't like being shut out from the

world so I watch weather and news too.

Hooray for TV.

The computer can easily eat up more time and the spam box is full of porn links

and you don't dare use chat rooms anymore.

I agree with #1 Ladies Detective Agency.

However I watch hours and hours of TV every

week. Heroes now. Medium at 10. Then

probably The Big Bang Theory and The Daily

Show that I recorded earlier. Maybe Global

Spirit tomorrow.

Soaps can be addictive. I watched B & B through college, and when I lived with

my mom during law school, she watched Y & R on Soap Net every night, so I got

to know those people pretty well. :) I can still recognize the voices of all

of the long-time Days of Our Lives actors, my mom watched that the whole

time I was growing up. Bo and Hope and all the rest! :) I think it's

hilarious how many men watch the nighttime soaps and deny that they're

soaps. My dad claims it's his wife who watches Desperate Housewives, but

somehow he can always manage to give me a very detailed re-cap...

If you find a solution to a TV junkie let me know. My DH has installed mutliple

satellite dishes and we have cable just so he doesn't miss a single hockey game

(or other sport for that matter). I guess he is more of a hockey junkie. As the

mother of two (soon to be three) boys I am already spending my fair share of

time at the rink.

I don't particularly like TV and typically only watch cooking and renovation

shows (only on cable because I can't work the satellites!!).

love Big Bang Theory! And My Name Is Earl LOL.

The boxes themselves are not the problem - it's what you watch & how much time

you spend doing it. Computer can also take over if you let it. DH is currently

addicted (I do not use that word lightly) to some game called 2nd Life. He

neglects everything around the house in order to play. It should pass soon -

his enthusiasms usually do.

My husband was in to a game called " Call to Power " for months......drove me

nuts because

I don't like computer games at all. He finally " forgot " about it.....or

maybe it was not as much

fun after a while.....I don't know but I am glad he is not playing it now.

Our two youngest

daughters, who were 16 and 18 at the time, threatened to cut up the CD!

I played the Sims2 for hours, days, months at a time. I finally weaned

myself of them and now only play occasionally. Now I have a life again, mine

I love Dr. Who and Torchwood too.  I wait until they come out on DVD and watch

the whole series in one shot.
