Guest guest
Yes. If you are using the commercially prepared VeggieBurgers, just throw them on the barby and cook that way. Keep track of where your burger is on the grill, unless you want to loose it! If using home made, yes, do in the foil because sometimes they want to come apart. Also, TAKE EXTRAS! Every time we go to a neighborhood bbq inevitably someone wants to try one. Several have turned to the green side of foodness, at least for several meals a week, just because of trying one vegetarian burgerless burger. Also take some yellow squash, cut long ways and basted with a little olive oil and sea salt, long Japanese eggplants, done the same way, thick slices of tomato, thick slices of sweet onions which are great brushed with teriyaki sauce half way through cooking, and marinated white mushrooms on skewers and slices of fresh pineapple brushed with a little corn oil and lightly sprinkled with sea salt or teriyaki sauce. If you don't have a narrow grate, soak 2 skinny bamboo skewers in water and put them into the pineappleto hold it together. Drool. Back off to bed. I thought I would cook a vegeburger to take with me. Will I be able to heat it up in a foil dish on the barby? (Can you tell this is my first BBQ, LOL?) Guest guest
Thanks you so much to everyone who replied on this query. I have saved all of your responses for next time. In the end I made mushroom/pecan burgers and vegetable kebabs to share. Unfortunately I arrived a bit later and found the allotment gates locked and no way of attracting anyone's attention :-( So I just had to turn around and walk home again. Never mind. It was a shame that I never got to share my food but the bonus is that I ended up with enough kebabs to last me the weekend and I froze the rest of the burgers :-) Christie
Guest guest
It was a shame that you didn't get to attend the BBQ and share your delicious prepared food with everyone. Why would they lock the gates? Have you shared your mushroom pecan burger recipe with us? It sounds delicious. Also were your vegetable kabobs grilled or raw? I know you sure enjoyed them. That is what I do for potlucks at our vegetarian potlucks. I make things I know we love, so if there are leftovers, we will enjoy them for another meal. I usually take about 6 dishes, so there is lots of variety at our meals. Have a wonderful day Christie! Judy Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly.... Guest guest
Thanks Judy - it was my own fault for arriving late. I didn't realise that the gate would be locked. The BBQ was being held at an allotment and I guess that they need to keep the gate locked so that the plots don't get vandalised. Allotments are small plots of land that can be rented from the city council specifically for the growing of fruit and veg - great for people living in apartments with no garden of their own. They are so popular there is a 5-10 year waiting list here in Edinburgh. The mushroom pecan burger was a recipe that I found online somewhere. I'll post the recipe separately. The vegetable kebabs were raw and I stuck them under the grill when I got home. I drizzled them with basil olive oil which was not such a good choice as the flavour was all wrong.
