Guest guest
I think that the oleo was dropped from oleo-margarine to make people forget the bag of what looked like lard into which the orange coloring was kneaded. I was a young child, but I remember that one of the ladies at Christmas dinner chided another for taking too much butter which was rationed and difficult to get. My mother said, 'she can have anything that she wants at my table " . Funny the memories that stick with you. I also remember the blackout shades which hid the light from enemy planes or submarines - yes in the US. At school we bought stamps for the war effort. Adults bought war bonds. Meat was rationed but I don't remember missing it :>) Spam was not something I would ever want to taste again. As a country, we worked together as did the people of England. Well, just a few random thoughts from a once young child LOL! Interesting. I just know " oleo " is what my 88-year-old grandma has always called it. (Her recipes!) Audrey S.
