I learned to cook basic simple stuff from my mom. She could make the simpliest

food taste delicious. We ate lots of different greens, all kinds of beans,

squash, okra, potatoes, tomatoes, cornbread, cobblers, meat substitutes.

She never used cookbooks. I yearned for cookbooks to read and make things from.

Now I have a big collection which I frequently browze and make things from.

Then I took home ec class in 9th grade and it broadened my abilities and insight

into cooking.

I also worked in the cafeteria at our school during my high school years. We

took all morning classes(classes started at 6:45 a.m.)or all afternoon classes

so we could work half a day.

That also taught me a lot.

Then when I got my own place, I loved to look at magazines and cookbooks to find

yummy new things to try out. Most turned out quite good. I like most almost

all vegetarian foods. My taste buds enjoy lots of different flavors. The

older I get the more I have fun in the kitchen. I really enjoy browzing

cookbooks and magazines with recipes.

I also love our recipe files here. So many good recipes. Go to your library

and check out some cookbooks. That is a ton of fun and doesn't cost anything.

Watch the Food TV channel. Lots of great cooking lessons on there.

Go have fun in your kitchen. Your cooking/baking gets better and better the

more you do it.

Last night we had homemade falafels put into pita bread with alfalfa sprouts,

thin sliced tomatoes and a homemade cucumber yogurt dressing. So good. I'm

always trying different recipes for falafels and they all have their own unique

tastes. Some I like better than others, but they are all GOOD.

I used a box of Tabouli mix to make Tabouli last night to go with our dinner and

it was great side to go with the falafel sandwiches. I added some fresh

parsley, diced tomatoes, lemon juice and olive oil to the recipe on the box.
