Guest guest
I've had the same problem. Gone to a Chinese restaurant, said I wanted vegetarian hot & sour. Hm, what's this? A bit of chicken. That actually happened with several dishes, several times. I gave up. They just didn't get it. I didn't get mad. I just didn't go there any more. Many people call themselves vegetarian and will say but I eat chicken and/or fish. We are the minority and if you are eating in a non-veg place this will happen from time to time. You have no idea how many places serve vegetable sour but it's made with chicken broth, mant Chinese places stir fry vegetable dishes with chicken broth, etc. How would you feel if a group of your friends were out eating with you in a vegetarian restaurant and one of them who isn't vegetarian and yet requests a meat burger? What if they made an exception and pulled one out of their freezer, cooked it and served them one? You wopuld be offened since it's a vegetarian restaurant. Don't over react, don't try to damage their business, bad karma might come back and bite you on the rear end. If you want to make sure your food is pure vegetarian then cook for yourself, eat at a vegetarian or veg friendly establishment. Move on, enjoy life. Guest guest
I agree, no reason to get mad. I ordered pizza from a chain restaurant once (their veggie pizza) and it had a piece of sausage stuck on one edge. I didn't notice til I got home, but I did call and speak to the manager. I explained that I didn't want anything free, just would appreciate it if she would remind her cooks to be careful about dropping meat on the veggie pizza. She was very nice and said that she would remind them. I always check the quesadilla at Taco Bell -- once I did get chicken, but I checked before I got out the door with it (fortunately that's a meal where it's easy to tell if there's chicken) and they were really apologetic. I was nice about it. There really are not any vegetarian restaurants in my city, so I do the best I can. I always ask what I'm getting, and if something looks suspicious, I politely ask and clarify. Usually people are very nice -- and this is a steak city! Audrey S. On Mon, Jul 27, 2009 at 3:15 PM, Gary Mattingly <gsmattinglywrote: > > > I've had the same problem. Guest guest
A lot of people don't get it. A friend of mine who didn't understand made a chicken stir-fry and said I could just pick out the meat pieces and not eat them. She thought that was a perfectly valid answer. Unfortunately when you are out the best you can do is double check that the food is right, if not send it back. Many don't think about the chicken broth in the broccoli cheese soup or the lard in the refried beans and look at you crazy when you ask. Im sorry that this happened to you but it will probably happen again. Use it as an opportunity to nicely inform them. My husband went to Burger King (he does construction work and frequently forgets his lunch) and ordered a veggie whopper. All it is is the veg and condiments just not meat patty. The person messed up and gave him a burger. He was upset but used it as an opportunity to let the manager know why they really need to be careful that they are giving people the right things and that just pulling off the meat isn't an option. Many people just don't know or haven't thought about it before and don't realize how unappetizing a stray meat chunk can make your eating experience. I live in NC and just about everywhere and everyone puts meat in their veggies. I know where I cant eat and am sure to ask many many questions before a bite hits my mouth. Unfortunately we aren't the norm in many societies and we do have to make some concessions even if that means being the only person not eating because a stray hit your plate and you've lost your appetite.
