Gary,

 

Welcome to the group. I wish you the best of luck on your journey to better

health. Just admitting that you have a problem is the first step, so you can be

proud of yourself for taking charge of your health. While I realize that this

is not a diet group, this group can sure get you thinking about eating

healthier. They talk about veggies in a way that makes them sound so much

better than my mom ever did, that's for sure. Just by reading the posts, I have

been encouraged to try new veggies and spices.

 

Maybe you need to transition by eating less meat at first and adding veggies.

Try to eat two big salads a day with light or no dressing. You will be

surprised how that helps fill you up without as much calories. If it were me, I

would eliminate beef, fried foods, sugar, white flour and white rice right away.

Drop the chips, cookies and other bad snacks and try to find healthier snacks

which you like, including raw veggies, flax crackers, hummus, fruit, dried

fruit, etc. Just decrease the meat and increase the fruits, veggies and whole

grains.

 

One thing that you might like is smoothies. If you have been eating a high-fat

breakfast, try switching to a big fruit and veggie smoothie for breakfast. If

that leaves you hungry, then munch on a handful of nuts or maybe some granola.

There should be recipes for smoothies and granola in the group's files. You can

Hi Mary,

 

Actually, I went full lacto ovo yesterday. I made an incredible veg soup. I also

had a fresh strawberry smoothie. Tasted great! I have read on line that one has

to be careful not to eat too many nuts and too much bread and pasta. Just

because one is a veg does not mean you can't eat too much. I must keep that in

mind.

 

This morning I tried soy milk for the first time in my life this morning. It was

not as bad as I though it would be.
