Guest guest
I love my melon baller. It makes it so easy to core apple halves for the boys snacks and I can just slice the little suckers right up. It also helps to keep the food interesting and fun for the kids. We have " mini " ice creams sometimes, we use it for all kinds of firm fleshed fruits to actually make balls with apples, pears, melons (shocker there huh lol). I also loved my blender for home made baby food a year or two ago. I also like my Crockpot for cub scout night dinners, and my dehydrator is just fun. ~Tee - Elizabeth or Bette Sunday, April 26, 2009 5:18 PM What are some of your favorite kitchen gadgets I thought this would be a good question. Maybe it will be helpful to new cooks in the kitchen. I use my cheese grater and tomato slicer all the time. Liz
Guest guest
Little hand chopper for onions -- saves my eyes from the onion fumes that make them water! Works great for cucumbers, nuts, etc, too. Not something to use with tomatoes unless you want a pulpy mess. This is the closest one I could find, but it's much nicer than mine: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9240173. Mine washes up well in the dishwasher, too. I think I might need that Oneida one... Old, beat-up, aluminium cake pans. I don't bake cakes in them, but use them in the oven for all kinds of stuff -- a Quorn cutlet, the frozen breaded mozarella sticks I like, etc. I got these out of my Grandma's cast-offs, but I've seen them at garage sales, too. I don't do non-stick, and these are great because I can even use an SOS pad on them! My mom has an old pizza pan that we used for the same kind of stuff growing up. (When she was in high school, a boy trying to impress her sneaked it out of Pizza Hut down the front of his pants. She's still using that pan, 40+ years later!) Audrey S. Guest guest
Soymilk machine, for untold gallons of cheeep and convenient milk and yogurt for the price of bulk beans(!). Fuzzy logic rice cooker for making great hot cereal + whole grain, greens, legume meals and having them ready on the dot by its own countdown clock aaand keeping them warm for hours. Home grain mill for tons of whole grain and legume flours for the price of bulk grain. Bread machine for baking them. Dutch ovens for some baking too, even using the indoor oven. Simple homemade dough proofing box for proofing sourdough starter and bread and incubating large batches of homemade yogurt. Guest guest
The wood rasp turned kitchen gadget that can reduce a clove of garlic to paste in seconds, same with ginger root. ~ irene
Guest guest
Kitchen Aid stand mixer - I use it for everything. It makes clean up so easy and does so many things. Just fyi for anyone, I saw at Costco they have the professional model for $274 (which is already a good price), but there is a coupon right now for an additional $40 off. Also, the magic bullet is very helpful and fast. >
Guest guest
Yeah, Irene, but you really gotta get a good bench vise to hold the garlic while you file! , irene wrote: > > The wood rasp turned kitchen gadget that can reduce a clove of garlic > to paste in seconds, same with ginger root. > > ~ irene >

Guest guest
Well I see we can list more than one. I also really like my Chinese purple clay rice cooker pot, and lately I have been using the citrus juice attachment in our Kitchen aid a A LOT! , " rosetalleo " <rosetalleo wrote: > > My olive pitter! > > > , Elizabeth or Bette <elizerbat@> wrote: > > > > I thought this would be a good question. Guest guest
My juicer is used the most in my kitchen, The Jack Lalane is sitting collecting dust gave up on it. The worst juicer I have ever owned. For people juicing once in a while it would be fine. Not for me.Juicing a couple times a day. Carrot and Strawberry one of my favorites. I received a Kenmore juicer from Freecycle and it works so much better. Now I just want a grass juicer and will be set. , " dphillips2ac " <dphillips2ac wrote: > > Food processor...and one particular mixing spoon that seems to be the perfect size for everything! >
Guest guest
I know that a dishwasher is not a gadget, but an appliance, but I absolutely could not play with my gadgets if I did have a dishwasher to help with cleanup. Guest guest
I love my knives. Unless I am chopping for the freezer I like to do everything by hand. Then all I have to wash is a cutting board and a knife. I'm a very lazy cook and I like to take advantage of greens that don't require cutting or tearing like spring greens, mesclun mixes and moche. I also like to but pre-shredded carrots and broccoli to add to almost everything. I so have a pampered chef food chopper, the little hand one. I am fond of it for onions and garlic. Guest guest
My favorite " work horse " is my food processor. I'd die without it. But for fun and decorative touches, my Lemon Zester is my fav. Mine has an deliciously plump and soft yellow handle but here's a photo of one if you're not familiar with them: http://www.superprod.com/product/smallwares/cutlery/specialty+knives/lemon+zeste\ r.do?code=OLC600 I fry up thin slices of zucchini and yellow squash in olive oil and lemon juice and when I move them to the serving dish, I top the mix with lovely little curls of lemon zest. Even in childhood I was never a vegetable fan so now I'm trying to learn to love veggies visually attractive food means a lot to me. There's just something delicious looking about the whole dish with those little lemon curls added to it. Giselle
