Guest guest
Lawdy Mama! Throw it out and use the jar for nails, matches or buttons. Hugs Donna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry " Ginger Clark " <ginger.garnett Sun, 04 Jan 2009 20:21:26 oldie but goodie? I have re-found in my cupboard an unopened jar of Once Again brand, 100% organic Tahini which I would very much like to use. It still has its plastic seal so I know it has never been opened but it has a sell by date of (gulp) August 2005. I'd like some opinions about the safety of opening and using this. I don't quite know what Tahini tastes or smells like so I really can't check for myself. As I said, I sure would like to use this if it's not too unsafe to try. I'd love to hear any and all opinions. Thank you! Ginger
Guest guest
I think it would be rancid. Nut and seed oils will do that quickly. BTW I love that brand. It is my favorite as it seems to stay mixed better than most tahini. Judy - Ginger Clark Sunday, January 04, 2009 2:21 PM oldie but goodie? Guest guest
Throw it away. If it makes you feel any better, I just cleaned out my pantry and threw away a ton of stuff that had expired. I really hate throwing away stuff, but sometimes things get hidden away and we just have to. ugh.......... pains my heart. LOL Judy - Ginger Clark Sunday, January 04, 2009 2:21 PM oldie but goodie? Guest guest
Hmmm, the overwhelming consensus is that I actually throw it down the drain? Breaks my heart, it looks like it'd be so good! Oh well, okay. I guess you're right that it's too much to ask that it be okay after 3-1/2 years. Thank you all for the sensible bops upside the head. I'll go buy some more. Hugs, Ginger > Lawdy Mama! Guest guest
Put those outdated foodstuffs in your compost bin! Even oily tahini can be diluted with water and dribbled over the material already in the bin. If it is or ever has been edible, the lil critters in the compost bin will love it in its present outdated condition. If you don't have a compost bin, dig some holes in your flower beds and bury the old food. It's the best way to recycle the contents. Now add the cleaned containers to your recycle bins. ~ irene > Throw it away. If it makes you feel any better, I just cleaned out > my pantry and threw away a ton of stuff that had expired. Guest guest
Well I don't have a formal bin but I do have a (hopefully) composting back yard pile and I'd certainly like to make someone happy with my poor old Tahini--even a tiny critter. Thanks for the good idea. (of course I'll have to use some of it to spackle Donna Lilacflower's walls first LOL) I really still have problems figuring out what goes into that compost pile and I know I'm throwing away some perfectly good stuff sometimes. So thank you for the reminder. Ginger > Put those outdated foodstuffs in your compost bin! > Even oily tahini can be diluted with water and dribbled over the > material already in the bin.
