Guest guest
Thanks Lawanna. I know I have to do something to make it easier. I told Jeff for the holidays- it will be hard. We won't be serving the normal foods. So I told him- she can bring a meat dish- but not desserts. I will make all the desserts- so they can see that we still eat normal type stuff. but also because at the last family reunion our kids were given candy. They don't eat candy- so they were bouncing off the walls for several days! then they felt wiped out. So I will make some healthier treats. She doesn't understand milk allergies or much about vegetarian recipes. She means well. When you visit take a bag of lentils and an onion, you can pop into her kitchen and whip something up, just get around it easily. This is what I do instead of tyrying to explain my lifestyle over and over again. I don't need the whole family to go through getting over those cravings again just to please grammy. > Blessings, Debra
Guest guest
My DX has no vegetarians on his side of the family. My side is all vegetarians or vegans and so are several of my nephews friends. When we have a large gathering I make vegan cheesecake and they love it. I will also make v egan cookies. Np one can tell the difference. We do a potluck, they love to make take the skin off your tongue salsa, fresh tortillas and usually a meat dish. Everyone enjoys the potato salad made with Vegenaise and they all want some to take home, we have homemade beans, Persian rice, lentil stew, sauteed hominy, Mexican rice, crockpot of spaghetti, several salad or veggie side dishes, veggie egg rolls, hummus, and more. It's always a wonderful event and most of the time their meat dish is half full when everyone is done eating. I never have leftovers. - have to hide a little food for myself the next day as I'm cooking. Guest guest
Great ideas. I am thinking that spagetti would be a good transitional meal. I have ground beef Not nuggets from Dixie Foods and I can make garlic bread with earth balance buttery spread.. all would taste similar to what they expect. Guest guest
Don't forget pesto tossed with pasta. You can make pea guacamole if you can't find ripe avocados. Tostadas are wonderful and easy to make. I bake the flour tortillas in the oven and fill. Guest guest
Really? I always feel guilty buying avocados, because they don't grow here, but peas? We've got peas a good part of the year. And they freeze well so we eat tons of peas. Do you just whiz them up in a blender? Tameson (interest peaked) - <thelilacflower > You can make pea guacamole if you can't find ripe avocados.
