Guest guest
I grow basil in a pot on my patio. I buy on plant and then overseed the rest of the pot with lettuce leaf basil seeds. I have a crowded pot, but this doesn't seem to affect the plants, and I always have some fresh for making pesto or adding to recipes. It sprouts in less than a week and you'll be enjoying pesto before long from those sprouted basil plants. I add the one basil plant in the center of the pot. I do this so I can start having fresh basil right away, while the seedlings are growing. I particarily like the lettuce leaf basil, because the leaves are huge. You can find the seeds at any garden center including Wal-marts. http://www.humeseeds.com/basilll.htm Enjoy, Judy
Guest guest
I used a 24 inch diameter pot, but you can use larger. My patio faces the south and it grows great from last frost to first fall frost, then I bring it inside. Pinch back any flower heads that form, about 3-4 joints below it, to encourage more leaves to form. It is super easy to grow in pots.
