Guest guest
Never had one before. I bought a silicone one the other night that is supposed to fit in all sizes of pots. How much water do I put in the bottom of the pan? I know I'm supposed to cover the pan. How long does it take to steam, say, asparagus? Does it screw it up if I take the lid off to check how soft the veggies are? Thanks! Audrey S.
Guest guest
Audrey, your question is not silly and I'm so happy you are going to try steaming, it's great you ask questions. Oh put about 3/4 inch of water, put the lid on, turn on high until the water is hot and ready to boil, then turn on low for about 7 mins. Yes you may open the lid and check to see if the asparagus is tender enough. Maybe even check at 6 mins and some people like it steamed for 10 mins. I like it crunchy and that's because my Mom used to steam veggies for 1/2 hour and I never knew what that green pile was on my plate lol. I think she could have been a baby food gpurmet chef. Guest guest
Thanks, Donna -- that helps a lot. Yes, I like my asparagus kinda crunchy, too -- my mom and sister will eat asparagus straight out of a can, yuck! The only way I will eat green beans is slightly crunchy, too. Audrey S.
