Guest guest
Our garage is very dark but since I know my way around the house without much light (and cataracts), I don't bother turning the light on in the garage when doing laundry. I just went out there a couple of minutes ago to feed the garage cats (there is another cat house off the garage that has birdovision during the day). Darth Katti (huge pure black recently dumped male) was sitting on Carl's big toolbox, which isn't his normal perch. (the hot water heater) He was looking at something and as I stared, I saw dozens of flickers of light near Darth and all over that end of the garage. Yeah, I've lost it. So I figured maybe it is the cataracts and closed my right eye since that one is worse than the other. Hmmmm, still dozens of little blinking lights. My blood pressure? No, I took that pill. Maybe I've lost my marbles? If so it was at least interesting. Maybe I'm having a stroke? Aneurysm? Alien attack? Government trial of some new secret weapon? Whatever it was, it was getting closer and Darth Katti could see it as well. He stood on his hind legs and started swatting at the blinking lights, so I knew it wasn't just me, either that or visual hallucinations are cross-contagious between felines and humans.(Huwomans? Hufems? Hupeoples? What's PC now?) I finally figured it out, though. Fireflies.(lightning bugs) We've had some odd things happen in and around the garage but never this. At least I hope it's fireflies, either that or Darth Katti was contacting the Mother Ship and about to be beamed up. Maybe I just need to eat more carrots. Hugs to all, Jeanne in GA
Guest guest
Jeanne, LOL you crack me up. Who would have thought about those lightening bugs getting inside your garage. I love lightening bugs. They are so cool looking at night, out in the yard. Our dog, always spots any flies. He will start snapping his mouth trying to catch them. Guest guest
I love your stories, Jeanne! Do you have a cat blog? You should! I'd contribute, too! My Myrtle caught a lightening bug on my patio last summer -- she spit it out immediately and started pawing at her mouth and batting at the air in front of her... apparently, they do not taste good. (Flies, on the other hand, must taste wonderful, because most dogs I know like nothing better than to catch a big juicy fly and smack on it! Eeeewww!) Audrey S.
