Guest guest
Those are the old ones. The Fagor ones have a safety feature that prevents blowing up. http://www.fagorpressurecookers.com/ Judy - DennSedai Tuesday, June 02, 2009 10:59 AM Re: Pressure Cookers - Karo I'm more leery of using one, than afraid. I've grown up with seeing my grandmother use one, on my mom's side of the family. But I also heard multiple times about the story of what happened with my dad's side of the family and my grandmother on that side blowing a hole in the kitchen ceiling as she wasn't as careful as she should have been... So for me it's always been one of those, love the idea, not to sure about the reality. Dennis
Guest guest
I figured they were, as time moves on and almost all technology advances. So for the moment it's on the 'wish list'. Dennis
Guest guest
You just have to be careful you are fully familiar with the directions before you start. I have been using several pressure cookers and pressure canners for the last 43 years and have never had any problems. I even have a great old pressure cooker from the 30's and 40's called a Minit Maid....it is great. I found the instruction manual to one in a box of old cookbooks and recipes that Mrs. Gwen Price (who owned the house when we bought it) left for me. Well, after reading the booklet, I knew I just had to have one. Found one on ebay and, if I remember correctly, I was the only bidder. It is very easy to use but, again, you need to know what you are doing before you use it. This Minit Maid has two oval, half racks with three inch legs that fit in the bottom so you can cook food on the bottom and then other food on the racks. I really enjoy using pressure cookers but for things like beans, I would much rather use either the Thermowell (deep cooking well) in my 1950 Chambers range or my late 1970's Goodwill find crock- pot. I don't like all of the foaming you get with beans. Nancy C. East Texas
