I found this chart in one of those old cookbooks: " Foods That Will Win

The War And How To Cook Them (1918). " Apparently citizens were encourged

to eat less meat and wheat products.

 

What's interesting to me is how much protein lentils contain - more per

pound than beef! With that, who needs meat? One more excuse down the

drain.
