Guest guest
I do banana or blackberry (this is my new favorite I just discovered) -- making these keeps me from eating so many cookies! What other fruit do you use? I tried peaches, but they just don't seem to have enough flavor for a shake, they need something else (maybe almond extract?) to improve the flavor. I don't think the bananas need any sweetener, but the blackberries need just a little sugar or splenda. I've seen those Margaritaville blenders -- they look like wonderful things! Here's the immersion blender I have: http://www.amazon.com/Oster-2-Speed-250-Watt-Blender-Silver/dp/B0000AZUW9. They are good for blending soups hot in the pot (don't have to take out and pour into a regular blender), and for making shakes right in your cup. Mine also came with a chopper bowl, and minces onions in less than a minute! I love this thing.... Audrey S. Guest guest
Oh, you would be in heaven. My yard is popping full of ripe blackberries. This is the season I like to make blackberry cobbler....oh my! I like to get the bags of frozen raspberries for shakes too. Mostly we just make banana, strawberry banana, chocolate banana, or berry blend (there is a bag of mixed frozen berries we like). Blueberries are good too and sweet! I agree peach needs more flavor. I've used nectarines with better success, they seem much more flavorful! Mango is good too and I always find those frozen in chunks. Admittedly my last bag of frozen mangos from Trader Joe's became mango ice cream (dairy free) and boy was that good. Oh, well now I'm embarrassed. So that's an immersion blender. I have one and I didn't know that's what it was called. Actually I got it from my father when he passed on 8 years ago, he really liked that little blender but I never really knew what to use it for. Like your idea of blending soup right in the pot with that, now I'm going to have to try it! Mine is not nearly as nice as yours, it's a cheapie. -mouse Tuesday, August 18, 2009 4:06 PM Re: Audrey Re: Mouse - frozen bananas What other fruit do you use? Audrey S. Guest guest
Oh wow, I love blackberries! Frozen raspberries always seem to be the most expensive frozen fruit for some reason, though. Nectarines sound like they would be good, I've been eating lots and lots of fresh ones lately. Audrey S.
Guest guest
What is your recipe for dairy free ice cream? My son loves ice cream but is very lactose intolerent. I make smoothies out of whatever frozen fruit I have. I try to keep bags of frozen banana chunks to add to other fruit that may not be flavorful enough on their own. I have made strawberry banana; peach strawberry; banana peach; peach nectarine and blueberry banana. I use the frozen fruit and rice milk and add a Tbsp of milled flax seed for thickening.
