Guest guest
Hi there, Once I went to get a veggie sausage roll from the local bakery (I'm based in the UK too) and they were all out. I got inspired to use the frozen Quorn 'banger' (sausage) and then I used this as a 'roll' recipe, it is a recipe for Nova Scotian Tea Biscuits, which are like savoury scones. It sort of did the trick but not as good as using the pastry that you can get in the shops. I didn't think of buying the puff pastry stuff at the time. 2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup shortening (cookeen in the UK) 2/3 cup milk Mix (or sift) together the dry ingredients and then add the shortening (cookeen). Add the milk bit by bit until you have the whole amount added. Turn all the dough out onto a floured board and pat it out to be about 1/2 inch thick. Use a cutter of some sort (I use a clean old tomato paste (puree) can that has both ends cut out of it) and use a straight motion to press down on the dough. Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake them for 12-15 minutes at 450 degrees F or 220 degrees C or gas mark 8. If you use a 2 inch cutter, this should make 18 biscuits. To use this for sausage rolls, I cut them out and then flattened them down even further and then put the veggie sausage in it and rolled it up around them. As for making your own veggie sausages, I will have to look and see what recipe I can find for that. I would bake them for 10 minutes at 350/180/gas mark 4, or whatever is indicated on your vegetarian sausage package.
