Guest guest
Oh nooooooooo, up north iced tea is served with a slice of lemon, no sugar. You would have loved seeing the husband's face the first time we ate out up there and he asked for iced tea rather than Coke. Kind of like mine the first time I had cucumber salad down here. I've always made it with rice wine vinegar, sugar and a little water (ice cubes, mainly), so I took a good size portion. It was pure vinegar. NASTY ICK PTOIE!!!!!! I can't stand the smell of it much less putting it into my mouth. They ruined those cucumbers! Then there was the afternoon Bible Study when we took a break for coffee and the goodies we had all brought. They made coffee in the big urn (the 30 cup type) and used 2 tablespoons for the ENTIRE POT. Dear coffee beans in heaven. Here I had grown up with good coffee, prepared strong enough to float an anchor (we're very much a USN family. One of our ancestors shoveled poo on the ark.) Blech, I think I'll go grind some more beans and have another pot of coffee to wipe the memories out of my mouth. *shudder* Jeanne in GA --- On Thu, 7/30/09, Leigh Pomerleau <lapomerleau wrote: Leigh Pomerleau <lapomerleau Re: Jeanne Tea in the South Thursday, July 30, 2009, 7:49 AM I thought that was how tea was supposed to be made Growing up in the south that is how I have always drank mine. Guest guest
I have never been to any restaurant in Texas where the service person didn't inquire, when you ordered iced tea, if you want sweet or unsweetened......even fast food places ask that question. No place I know of sweetens all of the tea.....lots of diabetics out there, you know. and people who just don't like sweet tea. And, the reason you add the sugar to tea when it is hot is because the sugar dissolves completely where if you add sugar after tea has cooled, it will not all dissolve. Most places don't use 2 whole cups of sugar to sweeten a gallon of tea.....why use more sugar than you need.....cost them more money. Nancy C.
