Guest guest
I was surprised to see them here a couple of months ago (southern California in the San Fernando valley). I could not resist buying a pound or two, so different from the dried ones, and I love the color. , " baskets4deb " <dprupp wrote: > > I am enjoying all the talk and recipes for my favorite bean. Most of them are grown in the inland northwest and they are starting to sell green ones as an alternative to edamame. These tast even better! It will probably be at least a year before you see green garbanzos available in other parts of the US. > > Deb on the Palouse in Idaho >
Guest guest
Ya'll need to try growing them too. There is nothing like shelling them and having gratifyingly huge beans pop out, unlike my Henderson bush baby butter beans which are about 3/4 weight pod (which is only good for composting) to 1/4 weight limas. You can dry them, cook them fresh or even home-can or home-freeze them. Once you have fresh, you'll never want canned garbanzos again. Mmm...I think I'm going to go mash up some garbanzos and goodies and make hummus. (Before ya'll ask, I toss cooked, drained garbanzo's, olive oil, a cooked and peeled sweet potato, some garlic and whatever else I have on hand into the food processor and whir it around. Just eyeball the amounts and go by taste/smell/texture.)
