Guest guest
I would have loved being there picking out fresh veggies. How fun. Donna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry " Michelle Dixon " <Petagoatjunction Mon, 27 Jul 2009 15:20:29 new vegie stand I was coming home from working at the organic farm this week and saw a sign up for vegies for sale with an arrow. This led to a very old farm house (1880's) only about a mile from my house. The man who runs it is a very nice older man who has 10 LARGE gardens around his house. He has 17 acres total, but not all in gardens. Everything is cut or picked as people request it. I wanted some cucumbers so he said lets go to the cucumber patch. We walked over to his other garden and looked through the plants until we found enough. The lady in front of me wanted some lettuce, so he took a knife and cut how much she wanted. Way cool!! He always gives out something free to keep people coming back. I don't think he needed to give us anything free, we'll be back! He goes to Walmart 2x a week and writes down their prices and then charges the same amount for his very fresh stuff. He opens every night from 4:00-7:00 during growing season. I'm so happy I found his place. He is not certified organic, but said he doesn't use anything chemical in his gardens. Too expensive he said. Between the organic CSA farm and his place I got: zucchini italian squash crookneck squash armenian cucumbers pickling cucumbers basil dill red potatoes garlic tomatoes peaches chili peppers green peppers red onions a zinia bouquet We had roasted vegies (2 large pans full) for dinner and banana peach smoothies for desert. My husband said it was the best dinner in a long time and he used to be a major carnivore. Michelle in NV
Guest guest
Hi Michelle, Would you please tell me what part of NV the farm is in. I live in Vegas and really miss my east coast vegetable stands. Thanks, Elaine --- On Mon, 7/27/09, Michelle Dixon <Petagoatjunction wrote: Michelle Dixon <Petagoatjunction new vegie stand Monday, July 27, 2009, 8:20 AM I was coming home from working at the organic farm this week and saw a sign up for vegies for sale with an arrow. Guest guest
I live in north west NV, in the boonies near Carson City, Reno and Fallon. Probably WAY too far to go from Vegas. I think we are about 6 hours from Vegas. Have you tried LocalHarvest website? It shows what farms are near you. Guest guest
Hi, I've only tried one market here and it was mostly crafts. I'll be trying other markets soon but they are a bit further from my home. The idea of going to a farm and getting really fresh veg. for Walmart prices is a rare prize. You are most lucky. Maybe the boonies is a good thing. Thank you, Elaine
