I am looking for some good ideas to use in my trying to become a full fledged vegetarian meals. Or are there any good juicing sites on that would compliment this great site ? Thanks. Guest guest
I juice on a somewhat regular basis. Would juice daily if I had a press and better juicer. What I have is a Jack Lalane juicer. Supposed to be a good juicer but I think I am killing it. Bogs down now. If you have the money move up to something like a Champion. Something with a press helps with green juices. There is a really good author on juicing Dr N W Walker Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices Book can be found at Amazon. A simple juice to make is carrots and apple. What I do is use a Pyrex cup to measure with. I juice about 4-5 large carrots and 1 medium apple Used a Pink Lady apple earlier today If I make a pint or 16 ounces I use that for a meal replacement. Also a perfect energy drink. Youtube has some good juicing videos http://www.rawreform.com will also give you some guidance on juicing , Joseph Horned <josiah852 wrote: > > Does anyone on this site also juice veggies at least once in a while ? Guest guest
I do! I love to juice. We use tons of carrots (about 20), about 5 celery stalks, and a handful of parsley, then maybe an apple if we have one around. It makes two large glasses. We had the Juiceman juicer for a short while, the motor gave out. Now we have the Jack La Lane juicer and we're happy with it. The motor is sufficient for us, and you don't have to chop things so much to they would fit in the tube. I compost the rest of the veggies that don't get juiced. If you're looking for specific juicing recipes, I'd be glad to look it up in the book that came with the juicer. It's a great thing to do, IMO. Great for you. I have a Champion juicer. Bought it around 1993 or so for right around $200. Works wonderfully! It takes less than 5 five minutes to take it apart and clean it when you're done. Not too bad. I've seen the Vita-Mixer demos and sampled the juice and a soup they made. I really like that, and can see a lot of uses for it. But the price tag of $450 is just 'way too steep for me, since I already have a juicer. But I think if I was just starting out juicing, I'd consider that. I also think it's very important to consider using only, or mostly, organic produce for juicing. It's one thing to eat one non-organic carrot, but when you are drinking the juice of maybe 3 or 4 carrots, a stalk of broccoli, some celery, a large cabbage wedge, etc....that's a heavy dose of chemicals you're getting. Guest guest
I juice quite often, however, I felt guilty not consuming the pulp that was left after juicing. Heard most of the nutrients are in the pulp anyway. So I'm borrowing my Mom's Vita-Mix and throw the pulp in w/the juice now and will add a banana and some other things like wheat germ or flax seed, so I end up with quite a healty smoothie. If it becomes to thick, I will add Hemp Milk or Aloe Vera Juice to thin it out. They say you are supposed to be able to juice w/the vita mix, however, I fail to see how you can extract all the juice from the fruit or vegetable just using the mixer. At any rate, my favorite combination is raw carrot, raw beet, and an apple for sweetness. " Only a biker knows why a dog holds his head out a car window.
