Guest guest
I am for anything that will help induce people to quit smoking and will keep young kids from starting. I have lost both parents, aunts and uncles to tobacco and have a 40 year old son-in-law who has had bladder cancer due to smoking......I hate cigarettes..........period and forever. Nancy C. I think there was a new tax put on cigarettes (it may even start today). . . something like $6.50 per carton. ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ .·´ -:¦:- Terri -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´ Genesis 2:15 The Lord God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it. Guest guest
Cigarette taxes are basically " sin taxes " --like on alcohol, etc. My only concern about cigarette tax increases is that the poor tend to be the major consumers of cigarettes, so they tend to bear the brunt of increased cigarette taxes. Nicotine is so addictive--my husband's ex-wife just recently ended up in the hospital because, at the age of about 64, she is unable to quit. However, we need to pay for our government, so tax increases are inevitable. It is nice to see the middle class not to have to bear all of the brunt of taxes. It is nice to see it shared, especially with the wealthy--I just feel badly about the poor getting hurt more. Kathleen and to top it off...here in Texas the price is goin UP by ONE DOLLAR!! Guest guest
Trust me when I say that the tabacco companies DO NOT CARE who gets hurt using their products as long as THEY make their money. NIcotine is MORE addictive than heroin and harder to kick. When I was first taking EMT Basic and EMT Intermediate classes years ago, it was amazing to learn what nicotine actually does to the human body......and all of the little extra goodies the tabacco company puts in cigarettes just makes them ever so much worse.... but they DO NOT care if you are poor or have all of the money in the world as long as they can get you addicted to their heath destroying products. You can eat more healthy than the healthiest person in the whole world but if you are a smoker, it will not do you any good because cancer doesn't care what you eat. Nancy C.
