Guest guest
Es alpukat is the name of the Indonesian Coffee Drink. Epicurious gave the recipe on their website but they used sweetened condensed milk, which is not used in Asia. Here's the recipe they gave and then I'll give my changes. Es alpukat, a surprisingly delicious and refreshing Indonesian coffee drink, gets its richness and body from avocado. In Indonesia, they often serve it over ice, but we prefer the ice blended right in, milkshake-style. 1/2 ripe large California avocado 1/3 cup espresso or 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled 1/2 cup sweetened condensed (not evaporated) milk 2 cups ice cubes 2 teaspoons vanilla Scoop avocado flesh into a blender, then purée with remaining ingredients until completely smooth, about 1 minute. Cooks' note: • If you have a large (6-cup) blender, you can double this recipe and still make it in 1 batch. Serves 2. Gourmet August 2001 Now here's how I do it. I use 1 cup strong Latin Coffee, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 c. coconut milk (Native Forest Classic). I blend it all in my vitamix. If I have hot coffee and my coconut milk is not chilled I can use up to about 10-12 ice cubes. If I have cold coffee and cold coconut milk I may use 4-6 ice cubes. I sweeten it with either agave nectar or stevia. I do not use vanilla because the coconut milk makes it quite vanillaee itself. I also add a scoop of plain whey or a scoop or Sunrider NuPlus, which feeds at the cellular level, for a little more nutrition. I taste it after I get it all blended...sometimes I add a little more coconut milk or coffee. I like mine very cold and slushy, not super liquidy. Enjoy.
