Guest guest
Question of the Week - What's for Breakfast Posted by: " wwjd " jtwigg cvtfluffy Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:18 am ((PST)) Although breakfast, per se, is not my favorite meal, I know it's important, and I've been recently working at getting going in the morning (early enough) in time to make something " substantial " but not too fattening for my DH and me--BEFORE DH gets almost-ready to leave and has the excuse, " I just brushed my teeth--I can't possibly eat breakfast NOW! " A couple of weeks ago, when my wrist was much too sore to knead bread, I had " fed " my sourdough starter and decided to make some waffles. It turned out to be a HUGE batch of sourdough waffles! Some of them had cinnamon, wheat germ, and sunflower seeds in them...others had something else, but I forget what--slightly different flavors. Anyway, I pulled out a very old electric waffle baker and got it heated up, sprayed, oiled, and so on...and made waffles to freeze. We have not had waffles EVERY day in the past week, but those frozen waffles have been something both DH and I like--and they are SO convenient to pull out of the freezer, since I placed pieces of waxed paper between each waffle and put them in stacks of about 6 or so at a time into large zip-freezer bags. Since DH does NOT like to eat what he thinks is a " lot " at breakfast, splitting a 9 " round waffle between the 2 of us is just fine. I put a little " topping " on it--some butter, maple syrup, maybe some walnuts, or fruit (no sugar) spread or honey on it, warm it up (sorry! I microwave it, usually!) ....I also cut up a piece of fruit or have a glass of juice with it. (DH eats a better breakfast when I have something READY like this than if I let him fend for himself--and he is a habitual breakfast-skipper, otherwise. So, tomorrow morning, I MAY have waffles ready to go. 2nd choice might be scrambled eggs with cheese. (I made a " cheese tray " for a meeting I had to help with refreshments, and I have a bunch of cheese I didn't use for it...I've also had a craving for cheese grits... they may turn up, but if I make them, DH would probably want something else.. Those are my breakfast ideas right now. Come morning, I may change my mind altogether and make something else! Have a good week, everyone! --Laura B., in Illinois Hi Everyone, Time for another Question of the week, to help folks share and inspire, as we answer. Guest guest
In my house we occasionally get tired of cereal prices so we do oatmael. You can mix so many things in oatmeal to make it taste good. Part of the fun is letting the kids make tell me what they want to put in to it.
