Guest guest
Hi Jerri..... Glad you had a good trip. Funny thing is though where you were, and where I live are a good 180 miles from each other. Houston is about 3 hours south and Victoria is even further away, I believe. You were in south-east Texas and we lived in more north east Texas. We are only about 60 miles back west of the Texas/Louisiana line from Shreveport/Bossier City area. I have been to Houston any number of times but I have never been to Victoria although I would love to visit there. If you can bring up a map of Texas, in particular the eastern half of the state.....look for the Kilgore/Longview area off of I-20. Then after you find Kilgore, look south following Hwy. 42 South....Price is actually on the map but we are only an unincorporated Rusk County community......not too big at all. If I said anything about a " conscious living workshop " around here, I would probably get a few blank stares and that is all!! lol!! My dad was born in Pulaski, Ill. and was raised there. When I was a little girl and we would go to see my Davis grandparents and my aunts and uncles, we would sometimes go to Kentucky.....usually it was to the Sears store in Paducah....Is that spelled correctly? I can remember, I must have been about 6 or 7 and I can remember sitting in the backseat of the car, looking for that Kentucky " blue grass " that I had heard about.....so funny. I would love to get to visit Kentucky and see it from adult eyes and really enjoy it. Maybe the kidding you are getting is the good natured kind since they like you enough to make sure that there is something for you to eat. I think everyone should show tolerance for everyone else's food choices. After all, as children, none of us probably liked grown-ups telling us what to eat or how much of it that we had to eat and so as grown-ups now, it is even more so. Who cares what anyone else eats? As long as everyone is happy....that is all that counts. Trust me, there are a lot of things I don't get to have anymore since I became a diabetic almost 3 years ago.....but, that's life. I am glad you had a good time and are home safe and sound. Nancy C. Price, Texas Hi Nancy, we just came back from East Texas, Victoria and Houston, specifically. My husband and I, along with two friends were there for over two weeks both seeing my husband's family in Victoria and participating in yoga classes and a conscious living workshop in Houston. We stayed with wonderful Indian families, and I'm now trying to learn Indian cooking. Our host gave us lessons every day. Everything was vegetarian, of course, one of the requirements for the yoga classes. In the workshops we ate strictly vegetarian and a sattvic diet based on aryuvedic principles. My appetite has lessened quite a bit since we've been back. Our teacher said a lot of our cravings would fall away. I'm really surprised my husband wanted to do this - both the vegetarianism and the yoga. Before he ate vegetarian at home and sometimes meat at lunch during work. He has now gone strictly vegetarian. I'm pretty certain that we are the only two vegetarians in our small community in Eastern KY. We volunteer for an organization here. It seems like every function involves food. They have been really good about making sure there is something vegetarian for me, although sometimes a few of them tease and try to get me to eat meat. I think they are going to be surprised that Chris (my husband) is now vegetarian too. Jerri http://justjera.wordpress.com/
