Guest guest
I love the chipotle links--They're too hot for me to take huge bites of, but in small pieces in hoppin' john they're out of this world! Guest guest
The clerk at Whole Foods was telling me that all of the Field Roast sausages are really good. I had the Italian one once, and it was a little better than the Boca ones, but it had at least 50 extra calories, and it was more expensive than Boca. I'm excited about this Celebration Roast! I had planned to get Wham for me (everybody else is having ham) and fix it just like they do, brown sugar and mustard. I'll work with this, though. I don't get to Whole Foods very often, but I seem to always get the same cashier, and he's always commenting on what I buy, asking me if I've had it before and if I've tried other Field Roast or Quorn products (because that's pretty much all I can afford to buy there -- and not very often!) I like that about them -- they're friendly but they don't harrass you, and somebody will drop what they're doing and walk you straight to what you're looking for. I've worked retail too long to be able to tolerate store employees who ignore me. Audrey S. Guest guest
Hi Audrey, I've tried the Field Roast sausages, they're pretty good, I tend to add them to things, not cook them like a " sausage " (chili, stir fry or casserole type dishes). I'm going to look for the Celebration Roast, I was planning on a Quorn roast for Easter. I'm in the same boat about not getting to Whole Foods often and I've felt the same way! I love going when I have plenty of time to wander around and look through all the items on the shelves. Guest guest
Hi Jann, The Celebration Roast was $5.99 for 4 servings, so it's quite a bit more expensive than a Quorn roast (I think they're like $6.99 for 6-8 servings), but for a special occasion, I'll try it -- plus, it's just me that will eat it. The meat substitutes seem to be comparable in price to a good cut of meat, and I used to spend money on meat. A few years ago, I would have spent that much money on a steak that would be two meals. This will be 4. (And the last time I had steak, I didn't care for it!) I only eat meat substitutes about twice a week, but I enjoy them and they're a good, easy source of protein. My regular grocery store carries some of the Quorn products, and their regular price is lower than Whole Foods, but occasionally Whole Foods has it on sale cheaper than my grocery store, so I stock up. I really wanted Wham for Easter, but I'm trying to console myself that I can try something new! Have a Happy Easter! I hope you find a Celebration Roast and we can compare Monday morning what we did with ours and how we liked them! Audrey S. Guest guest
I ended up at Whole Foods this afternoon (I DO love the vibe there!) but no Celebration roast (they do have the sausages)...it will have to be Quorn. My local grocery store usually has it cheaper than WF as well. I'm trying out different meat substitutes on my family, hoping to find some things they'll like, but I'm not holding out hope it will be a total transformation, and that's OK. I'm just happy they'll try some of my creations! They're not big on beans (and I love them) although I was really pleased with a black bean burger recipe I just tried, hubby said he'd be willing to try one (as long as it has cheese, ketchup, etc etc on it!). Hard to change the mindset that every meal has to center around a meat source of protein but I keep offering different things. Hubby wants to lose a few pounds before he goes back for his (rescheduled) shoulder surgery (his BP was too high). He's got 2 weeks (and BP check next week). We're also trying celery - 4 stalks a day is supposed to lower your BP a bit! So he's in a good place to try more veg meals (and I'm taking advantage of it!). He's actually lost 3 pounds since Thurs (probably mostly water and men seem to lose weight much more readily than women...sigh), plus he's checking his BP, it's already better so we're hopeful. Have a nice Easter and let us know how your Celebration roast came out!
