Guest guest
Deep Fried Fresh Mushrooms 2 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ground pepper 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup buttermilk 8 oz. fresh mushrooms (washed, dried, and stems removed) Vegetable oil (for frying) Place buttermilk in bowl and set aside. Mix flour, salt, pepper, and baking powder in separate bowl. Heat oil at 375 for frying. Coat mushrooms with flour mixture, dip mushrooms in buttermilk, and finally coat mushrooms with flour mixture again. Place mushrooms in hot oil and do not over crow. Oil should be about 375º for deep frying. When mushrooms turn a golden brown remove and drain on absorbent paper towels. More salt may be added to mushrooms for your taste. Fried mushrooms should be served immediately for best taste.
Guest guest
When I worked at The Barkley House Restaurant in Athens, Texas as head chef and kitchen manager, this was on our appetizer menu. The recipe was very similar except we used part flour and part fine cracker crumbs as the breading and we did not remove the stems as we used smallish mushrooms. We served deep fried mushrooms with the most delicious dipping sauce that was so simple to make. You mix equat parts of yellow mustard and red currant jelly together in a microwavable container.......heat until really warm and then stir to combine well and then heat a little longer so it can be served warm.....adds a really nice tang. So simple, so easy and really compliments the deep fried mushrooms. Nancy C. Guest guest
Oh I love battered fried mushrooms. I'll have to try these. Thanks to both Nancy and Anna for your recipes and dipping sauce suggestion. We dip ours in a combination of Horseradish mustard(french's) and Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. Judy .
