Guest guest
Here are some really good ones that I've enjoyed making and lots more to try. Basically I add a little liquid to my Vita-mix, either water, juice, or milk, some frozen and fresh fruit, and some fresh raw greens(kale, collards, spinach, etc). When you first start making green smoothies, use less greens. The more you drink these, the more greens you start wanting to add to your smoothies. Add some ice. Taste and add sweetener of choice to taste, if needed. Sometimes I add Vanilla yogurt to my smoothies. http://www.vitamix.com/household/health/green_smoothie.asp http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type= & search_query=green+smoothies & aq=f Yours to Enjoy, Judy - Barbara Battibulli Saturday, April 11, 2009 5:25 PM Green Smoothies Will you share some of your recipes? Guest guest
I have been reading more and more about green smoothies. Does anybody drink these daily? I need to buy a blender, don't think a food processor will work I have found a few recipes so far. Kale, spinach, orange, apple and banana. Years ago I did a protein drink for breakfast with a bunch of grains like brewers yeast, and flax seeds, with soy milk and a banana, yum. I felt so much better and no hot flashes. I need to buy a blender, don't think a food processor will work I LOVE LOVE LOVE green smoothies! At least several days a week, I blend a bunch of spinach (literally, one bound bunch), about 3/4 of a fresh pineapple (the ones you get peeled and cored at the grocery) and a banana. (It's more than you can drink at one sitting.) I just put the spinach in the blender with about 3 " of water and blend. Then, add the fruit and blend again. All up, maybe 30- 45 seconds of blending. A food processor might be okay, depending on the one you have, but I wouldn't use mine. Jen
Guest guest
My partner and I started doing this around Dec/Jan, and we both love them! Neither of us uses a recipe, though they may change as we're doing it longer and want more variety than our imaginations can provide This morning's is spinach, radish greens, strawberries, half a banana, an apple, a handful of cranberries, ground flax seeds, and water. They're really good (Much better than they sound!). For me, part of the fun is being able to keep tossing things in until I love the taste. And there's something about drinking a huge cup of something bright green that tickles my adolescent sense of humor I've never tried making one in a food processor, so I'm not sure how that would go. Okay, I'm babbling--Hope there's something useful in here! Peace, Mo Karen wrote: > I have been reading more and more about green smoothies. Does anybody drink > these daily? Guest guest
Karo, Smoothies are an excellent way to start the day. I think it is easiest to start out simple. If you start out with some of the stronger ingredients, like beets and ginger, then you might not like them unless those are already favorite foods. You can start with a couple of lettuce leaves and some mixed fruit, and then add from there. You can either choose a couple of fruits that you really care for, like strawberry/banana or strawberry/pineapple, or just mix it all up. This morning, I used frozen cherries, strawberries and peaches with fresh seeded grapes and about 5 large pieces of romaine lettuce. I always add some flax seed and some all day energy green powder and it is delicious and healthy. I start everyday with a smoothie and it is different all of the time, depending upon what is in the house. During the height of gardening season, I add all different types of greens, like kale, chard, spinach, etc. There are whole books about smoothies out there, like The Smoothie Bible, if you want a good reference. I do recommend getting a good blender so that it will handle things like frozen fruit and really pulverize things like flax seed. I have a Total Blender and I have been very pleased with it. Others like the Vitamix, too.
Guest guest
Not sure of the proportions but my fave green smoothie/breakfast drink is a small container of yogurt, a frozen banana, 1/2 cup blueberries (frozen or not) and about 1/2 cup or so of almond milk. Start the blender and then throw in 1/2 cup oatmeal (not cooked) and a handful of spinach. Let it run on high for a few minutes to liquefy everything. (I am lucky enough to have a Vita-mix so hopefully everything would be okay in a blender if necessary). This is so good and it keeps me happy until lunch time. I hate cereal so its a good way to get grains. Sharon in Oregon
