Guest guest
I know it must have been ever harder for you.....you were so young. I am so sorry you lost your mom. We need our mothers all of our lives. I always feel so sorry for women who did not have good relationships with their moms. No matter how wonderful a step-mother is, and there are some that are terrific, if you had a good relationship with your mom, no step-mother can ever take her place. I wish you could have your mom back too. Nancy C. - Steph Thursday, January 08, 2009 2:24 PM Re: Nancy Nancy, Sorry about your loss. I felt the same when I saw the post. My mom died in 1999 at 44 to colon cancer ( I was 23) and man would I give anything to have our weekly dinners again. I am blessed now with a pretty good step-mom but lets face it no one can ever fill the shoes of the real thing. Thursday, January 8, 2009, 3:02 PM I love any kind of beans, especially kidney beans or chick peas on salad, and I love salads with lots of fresh vegetables on it.....and different kinds of greens.....which my husband refers to as " weeds " .....so funny. I also like to add pine nuts, dried cranberries, sliced almonds or walnuts. Sounds good to me! You are so lucky to have a mother to have dinner with once a week. I would give most anything to be able to have dinner with my mother just one more time. She died September 18th, 1984 at only 58 years of age. I was 36 years old. She was my best friend and the smartest woman I think I ever knew.......and she loved me and my children so. I wish I could have her back......and now my 21 year old granddaughter is with her. I wish I could have them both back. Enjoy your mother while you can.....you never know when you may not have the opportunity to eat dinner with her ever again. AND, don't forget to wear your seatbelt for Brittany. In tears again..... Nancy C. East Texas - Audrey Snyder Thursday, January 08, 2009 1:21 PM Salad ideas? My mom and I have decided to have supper together every Wednesday night -- I have to schedule these things because I'm so busy! Anyway, she complained that she didn't know what to fix for me other than salad (her standard complaint). I said that both of us could stand to have a salad once a week for supper... So that's our plan. What kinds of things do you all put on salads to make them more exciting? My favorites are Greek salad with feta, kalamata olives, red onions, etc., or taco salad. What else? Thanks! Audrey S.
Guest guest
I joined ediets, cause I wanted to loose weight, and be guided how to eat vegetarian, so I'm not eating all pasta and rice. You can choose meals. What I've also learned is, (working from home, so the refrigerator is MINE, the pantry is MINE...) Lot's of fresh vegetables, and enough suff that can be cooked, like on the weekend, and microwaved for lunch for a few days. Access to my stove..I love veggie burgers, I cook them on my stove. Mine can also be cooked on the stove, and microwaved later. Go and buy some TVP, and my blog has the veggie burger recipe. You can make it, let it set in the refrigerator, then cook them, and then microwave them at work. Throw tvp into everything, and someone just posted vegetables with protien content here. Add tvp with that. I get tired of tofu. I threw tvp in the mock crab cakes recipe yesterday. Made a whole bunch of them, and I'll microwave them for lunch. If you are thinking you will eat, drink water-64 ounces a day. (hard to do at work.) The holidays are coming up. Stay with the vegetarian stuff. My mom and I live together...I had to explain the furry mammel thing to her.) So it was moslty out of love. I found out I didn't miss it that much. I never realized they kind of taste rubbery. Write down what you eat, and the calories, and the protein. Both Blackberry, and also Iphone has apps for that. Keep fresh vegetables at your desk. Apples are also good. Stay away from the cookies, candy, stay away from protien bars, they are just candy bars. I find with watching my weight, that it's easier to be vegan (Because with vegan, you're not getting added cholesterol. What you're getting is usually protein. Have broccoli daily. I'll mess around with TVP and broccoli this weekend. I am out of town for 5 days next week, I leave on Wednesday (yay). So I might not be updating my blog. I am going to talk to the guy who works at the healthy food store about vitamins this weekend. My blog is www.vegawesome.com Like I tell people, any major diet change, unless you work in healthcare and know what your options are, see your doctor for labs, talk to a nutrtionist. Hope this helps. You can email me at webrstraw. --Rhonda
Guest guest
Do you soak the TVP in water before you " throw " it into recipes? I just bought some but don't really know what to do with it.Also, what is the protein requirement per day?

Maybe I can answer your question. You can soak the TVP in (initially) boiling water, flavored however you want the TVP to taste. For example, bouillons, onion or garlic powders, taco seasoning...whatever you want. Then you can add it to your dish and eat it immediately. On the other hand, if you are preparing something like spaghetti sauce or soups/stews, you may not need to presoak the TVP at all. Just add it and let it cook in the liquid for at least 20 minutes. I find that 3/4 cup of granulated TVP replaces about a pound of ground meat in recipes. A cup of larger chunks should be equal to that. TVP is very high in protein but low in fats (no cholesterol!) and calories: >Use of Textured Soy Protein >Textured soy protein has a shelflife of more than a year when stored dry at room temperature. After rehydration, it should be used at once or stored for a max 3 days in the refrigerator. To use textured soy protein read the instruction on the packages. Normally it says to rehydrate the protein in cold or hot water and to let it rehydrate for a few minutes. When you add a bit of vinegar or lemon juice the textured soy protein rehydrates quicklier. Textured soy protein can replace, completely or partly, ground beef in most recipes. >Nutritional values >Textured soy protein is rich in protein and extremely low in fat and sodium. Textured soy protein shall contain at least 35% protein on a moisture free bases. It is also a good source of fiber and isoflavones. Guest guest
Thanks Rhonda, I do eat a lot of TVP just don't bring it to work with all the questions from meat eaters. I was hoping to find things at work that I could eat to save money on the grocery bill but when I looked around work the only thing I found was cheese, cottege cheese and yogurt.
