Guest guest
hi all, im from japan and just joined the group. traditionally we have many vegetarian dishes in japan so i am happy to share some japanese vegetarian recipes as well as getting new recipes. here is one of our traditional vegetarian dish called Gan Modoki, savory tofu fritters with ginger accent. great for appetizers (you can imagine something like chicken fingers) can be in a sandwich with crisp veggies, or main dish just as is, it goes well with some plain white rice. you can drizzle some vegetable gravy over the fritters. it freezes well too! --- Tofu Fritters (makes about 15 fritters) --- - 1/2 package firm tofu - 1 tsp grated ginger - 1 cup chopped vegetables, such as carrots, peas, onions - 1/4 cup chopped mushroom or dried hijiki seaweed - 1 egg (if you are ovo veg) - 2-3 tbs starch - 1/2 tsp salt - 1/2 tsp sugar 1. in a bowl, break tofu well with hands. 2. add everything else and mix well. for vegan, add extra liquid (such as soy milk) to moisten. 3. heat oil for frying, about 1/2 inch depth in the pan. 4. by using 2 table spoons, drop the tofu mixture into the oil and fry until lightly golden. --- ~sana
