Guest guest
The first time I had tempeh was in a take out dish (a combo of many different things, like a stir fry) from a natural foods store that's out of business now (bummer!). I don't make it that often as I'm the only one that likes it (hubby and daughter aren't veg but will try things). I find steaming it first helps plump it up. You can also freeze it in the vacuum pack if you're not sure what to make and don't want to waste it! I have made this and it's yummy on many things: Tempeh Sausage Crumbles prep time: 2 minutes | cooking time: 25-30 minutes | makes about 2 cups This is delicious over pasta with marinara sauce or as a pizza topping. It's also good as a burrito filling or served for breakfast alongside scrambled tofu or eggs. Ingredients 8 oz package tempeh 1 tablespoon fennel seed 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 teaspoon dried marjoram or oregano 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) 1/2 teaspoon dried sage 2 teaspoons garlic, minced 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce 1 tablespoon olive oil juice of 1/2 a lemon Directions In a saute pan, crumble the tempeh and add enough water to almost cover it. Over high heat, steam the tempeh until most of the water is absorbed, about 15 minutes. Drain the remaining water and add the rest of the ingredients and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned, about 10 minutes. I looked through the recipes and a lot sounds good but I am not sure which one to try?! I usually don't have a lot of prep time (I have 3 children). > I have tried and love tofu cooked many ways, but not the Tempeh! Any help would be greatly appreciated! >
