JULIET GELLATLEY is the founder and director of Viva!, Europe's largest vegetarian and vegan group, and health charity the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation. Viva! is bringing its Incredible Veggie Roadshow to Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall on Saturday (10.30am-4.30pm, www.viva.org.uk/glasgow).

What's the best meal you've ever had?

Ironically, it was from one of the poorest cafés in Goa, India. I cajoled my husband into this tiny veggie shack to experience the true taste of India. We had a feast of fresh curries and masala dosa, and they kept topping us up - it cost 15p each.

What's the worst meal you've ever had?

I was invited to speak at the inauguration of a vegan mayor. It was a grand event but the food was hideous - bland ratatouille with boiled courgette and inedible aubergine (you can always tell a good cook by whether they can cook aubergine). The meat-eaters got food poisoning, so at least I was spared that.

What's in your fridge?

Absolutely loads of fresh vegetables, weird and wonderful seed oils and wine.

What's your hangover fix?

Water, B vitamins (the liver uses lots to break down alcohol), flaxseed oil (which helps your brain cells fight alcohol) and milk thistle (I even tried putting that in my wine but don't recommend taking it that way). Otherwise, it's sleep.

What's your most useful kitchen utensil?

My husband, Tony. He does more cooking than me, thank God.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?

No guilt, just pleasure - Booja Booja's chocolate-and-ginger ice-creams. Believe it or not, they are made from cashew nuts and are truly heavenly.

What's your classic stand-by recipe?

Pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and asparagus, which is delicious and easy - it takes ten minutes to cook. Chop a bunch of asparagus into pieces and steam. Cook wholegrain pasta, such as penne or spirals. In a small pan, heat some olive oil, add four large cloves of chopped garlic and fry gently until lightly browned. Add the oil and garlic to the cooked pasta and mix thoroughly. Then add half a pack of moist sun-dried tomatoes chopped into bite-sized pieces with scissors, a handful of fresh, chopped coriander or mixed herbs and black pepper.

Who would you invite to a fantasy dinner party?

My heroes Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. We'd plot a revolution to save our dying planet. I'd also invite Ricky Gervais and Ben Elton, because you've got to laugh, no matter how bad it gets.

Which food says home to you?

Mashed potatoes and baked beans.

Have you ever been on a diet?

Once, when I was 15 and least needed it.

What's the one food that makes you feel better?

Sweet, organic raspberries. Or nectarines, plums, mango... I'm a fruity mama!

Do you eat airline food?

Yes, I order vegan because it's too much hassle to organise carrying my own on board, especially with all the restrictions these days.

Do you buy organic?

Yes. I'd rather not pay big agricultural conglomerates to poison me and my family, let alone planet Earth.

How tidy is your kitchen?

Clean, but I'm too busy to be obsessive about tidiness - that's my excuse anyway.

Apparently she stays at Fern Tor Vegan B & B in Devon from time to

time - at least that's what the owners said when we stayed there.
